  • Unbelievably Beautiful!

"I don't know where to start. This home, from its setting in the Maine woods, surrounded on three sides by water, to its beautiful furnishings - most imported Italian antiques from Andrea's homeland in Italy - is absolutely amazing. The owners have thought of everything to see to their guests' comfort. The home is beautifully furnished and incredibly clean. Yet the owners have also managed to make it homey and comfortable, as well. You can tell it is their dream home because everything has been so carefully planned and thought-out. The location is great. Ten minutes from Ellsworth and 30 mins to Bar Harbor and Acadia, yet you feel like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle. We were busy sightseeing every day, but honestly I wish we had had more time just to spend a day or two relaxing at this beautiful property. We loved having our coffee in the morning in the dining/living area and watching the rainbows dance around the room from the morning sun shining through the crystal chandelier. We loved finishing our day watching the sunset from the comfortable bench the owners have placed at the edge of the woods looking out over the cove. Perfect place to share a bottle of wine while watching the sun set over the cove. The rooms are all large, open, and light-filled. Huge windows throughout the house let in the sunlight and the woods, with trees swaying and leaves fluttering in the easy sea breeze, and surrounding water, become a part of the living area. My husband and I loved laying in bed at night and looking out at the silhouettes of the woods and the stars sparkling in the night sky. It seems every detail has been taken care of. The owners are wonderful, personable, and accommodating to worth with. I almost feel like I know them now. This is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure to visit. If you want to experience the best of all worlds, the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and surrounding towns, exploring Acadia, the inspiring Maine woods, all on the edge of the water, with all the comforts - and more - of home, this is the place you do not want to miss. My only mistake was not booking it for a longer period of time. I cannot wait to return. With many thanks to Andrea and Erika for sharing their dream home with us, I look forward to returning again in the future for a longer stay. Kindest regards to them, and assurances to other vacation seekers that you will absolutely fall in love with everything about this home."

  • The place to get away from it all!

"Our family just completed a stay at this home. We were a bit nervous about the ferry ride to get here but found it to work out fine. It was well worth the trip. The views are second to none on the island and there is plenty of room to spread out with a large group. We went on this trip to see Acadia but found we preferred the quiet seclusion of the island to the crowds. Plenty to do and see here. Recommendations would be to have a car to keep on the island if you plan on going back and forth on the ferry and definitely go for a ride with Normie Burns on his lobster boat. It is just a magical place!"

  • Pictures do Not do Justice to This Beautiful Home

"Our family stayed at Meadowside Cottage this past week. We were in Southwest Harbor for a wedding. Over the weekend we were six adults and one grandchild with a smaller number staying on to enjoy Mr. Desert Island the rest of the time. This house was perfect for us at all times. Looking at the vrbo pictures we were worried the house might be too small, but rented it based on one of the reviews that said the pictures do not do justice to the house. This is so true! The first floor is spacious and light filled. The living room is large with a comfortable sofa and chairs. The dining room is large and the table is comfortable and inviting. The sun room is large and lovely. The kitchen is generously equipped and easy to work in. There is a very nice separate study with easy internet access and a closet full of puzzles, games and videos. The bedrooms, up and down are well furnished. And the back yard is large with a fire pit and a generous herb, vegetable and flower garden that can be used by renters. Meadowside Cottage really is a large house that invites one to rest and relax and feel at home. And the location is convenient to so much. It is five minutes from downtown Southwest Harbor, four minutes to the Seawall Picnic Area, and 5 minutes to the beautiful Ship Harbor hike. Even though we toured Mt. Desert Island in the end we would have been happy to stay in the immediate area a enjoy the hikes We would like to recommend the Common Good Soup Kitchen that is next to the Seawall Motel just a few minutes away. This is a lovely restaurant space with good views of the seawall. A breakfast of oatmeal, coffee and delicious popovers are served from 7:30 to 11:30 on a donation basis. The proceeds go to meals for those in the community who may need food during the off season. It is a warm cheerful experience. The owners were very easy to work with. We had one small leak during a storm and called the housekeeper who lives across the street. She called the handyman who also lives nearby and he came over immediately. All were very pleasant and helpful. This is a cared about and cared for home. We have rented from vrbo owners across the country and can say this is one of the best experiences we have had."

  • September in Southwest Harbor

"We had three couples staying at the cabin for one week the second week of September. Our objective for the week was to bike and hike the Carriage Roads in Acadia. The location of our cabin was perfect. Easy to find, felt secluded but actually not far from the interesting town of Southwest Harbor. The house was well-equipped and cheerfully and comfortably appointed. Our week had just one morning of rain and the rest of the week was cool but sunny and perfect for hiking and riding the Carriage Roads. One of our group ran every morning along the picturesque Shore Road safely. The house was well-maintained and we would unhesitantly recommend the cabin to others."

Acadia Travel Tips

Rocky Coastlines Abound by Acadia Vacation Rentals

Land and sea come together on the rocky coastline of Maine. Spend a week in summer enjoying the sights and sounds at Acadia vacation rentals. A spacious house with the ideal view of Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor or Somes Sound can be yours. You can find the perfect vacation rental with VRBO for your family reunion or family vacation. Acadia rentals offer you the chance to prepare your own fresh lobster dinners on your private deck or watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean while having your breakfast. There are plenty of amenities to make your stay more enjoyable, such as comfortable beds, large living areas and room to relax indoors or out.

Acadia National Park is Minutes Away From Acadia Lodging

You and your family can visit Acadia National Park to see the 54 square miles of Mount Desert Island. This fantastic island is the largest rock-based island in the Atlantic Ocean region. These rounded domes have been around for centuries with summits that are clustered with pine, spruce and fir trees as well as a profound profusion of wildflowers. Bird-lovers will find a large variety of birds within the park’s boundaries so do not forget to bring your binoculars. Guests of Acadia rentals can visit the park throughout the year with the exception of a two-mile section along the ocean during the winter.

With a fully equipped kitchen, you will be able to pack a picnic lunch so that you can hike some of the 125 miles of trails. If you are so inclined, there are horse-drawn carriage rides that are available from mid-June to early October. Otherwise, you can indulge your passion for fresh sea air by biking or taking a walking tour. Park rangers are on-hand from late spring to early fall to provide information on the area. After a delicious dinner, bring the family to a campfire program where you could learn about marine life, history or wildlife. You can even take a cruise around Frenchman Bay and the Cranberry Islands to get a great perspective from the water. A seven-day pass is the perfect accompaniment to your wonderful Acadia lodging reservation.

Acadia Travel Means Shopping and Restaurants

What could be better than a fresh lobster dinner while you are on vacation in Maine? You may decide you do not want to cook this feast yourself but dine out at one of the many restaurants in the area. There will be many that fit anyone’s budget and they do not all serve seafood. The restaurants in the Down East and Acadia region feature fresh ingredients with simple to extravagant cuisine. If you tire of seafood, you can find pasta, pizza, steak, and lighter fare such as salads and soup. One of the most popular and well-known restaurants in the area is the Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor. The estate is also located in Bar Harbor so you can see how the beer there is made.

Shopping is another leisure activity that can be enjoyed while staying in Acadia vacation rentals. Whether you are looking for a gift or want a memento of your time together in this amazing place, you can find it. If you have come away without the proper clothing or just want something new for your wardrobe, visit the Black Sheep Trading Company. This great store has hand-woven sweaters, moccasins, slippers or sheepskin items. If you want to indulge in a sweet confection to top your morning English muffin, visit Nervous Nellie’s Jams and Jellies. Maine crafts are abundant at Maine-ly Made Gifts where you can bring home items that remind you of the sea. Bookstores, artisans and artists all display their wares in the Acadia area.
