Overview of Kennebec Valley (Central Maine) Vacation Rentals
Central Maine Vacation Rentals are Perfect any Time of Year
Getting to Central Maine cabins is very easy, either via Portland or Bangor airports or on Interstate Highway 95 or US Route 1. The weather here has four distinct seasons, with world-famous color during fall, warm summers and snow-filled winters. Once here, visit the array of island communities via excellent ferry services.
The area of Kennebec Valley in Central Maine has delightful towns and villages, such as Augusta, Belgrade Lakes, China, East Monmouth, Feyette, Embden, Hartland, Manchester, New Portland, Readfield, Wayne, and Winthrop.
Central Maine Cottages are Ideally Placed to Explore the Area
Rockland is considered an excellent cultural center, with a variety of museums to visit. Visitors to Central Maine vacation rentals can spend hours viewing art collections of some of America’s great artists including three generations of art from the Wyeth family. There are local exhibitions and collections, including a fascinating one of lighthouse artifacts. Here, visitors to the Island Institute can learn more about island life, including the importance of the fishing industry to the region’s economy. Within easy reach of Rockland are three historic lighthouses that visitors are welcome to explore. The town is best explored on foot and there are a wealth of stores and locally produced goods on offer.
Known as the "Jewel of the Maine Coast," Camden is known for its charming waterfront area, with its unique shops and great restaurants. No doubt it is a charming area but Rockport has been called the prettiest harbor in America. Visit both and decide for yourself which is best. In Rockport is also the Center for Main Contemporary Art. Another town to be explored is Lincolnville, with its thick green forested mountains and crystal clear lakes, clean beaches and rocky coastline. One of the most historic towns and certainly one with a fascinating history is Thomaston. Here, visitors can enjoy the 19th-century downtown area and explore the life of General Henry Knox, a hero of the Revolutionary War. A unique shopping experience here is at the Maine State Prison Showroom where visitors can buy wood produced by the inmates.
For stunning ocean views and calm tidal marshlands, the St. George Peninsula is the perfect area to explore. This area is famous as the home of the Wyeth family of artists, some of whom captured Maine life for prosperity. Take time to visit the Marshall Point Lighthouse and Museum, the Owls Head Transportation Museum and Owls Head Light for wonderful views over Penobscot Bay.
Visit the Islands to Discover a Different Kind of Life
There are a variety of wonderful islands to explore from Central Maine cottages. Some delightful day trips are to visit North Haven, Matinicus, Vinalhaven, and Monhegan. The main industry of the islands is the sea, with most residents employed in fishing or catching the famous lobster. The stunning cliffs of Monhegan Island have been the inspiration for artists for hundreds of years. There is a wildlife sanctuary protecting a wide variety of wildflowers and over 200 species of birds such as peregrine falcons, marsh hawks and ospreys. The 17 miles of hiking trails provide plenty of opportunities to watch the wildlife, or swim and enjoy the tranquility. Matinicus Island is the furthest inhabited island and attracts visitors for its peaceful atmosphere.
Central Maine Cabins are Everything Needed in a Home Away From Home
Central Maine cottages here are much like the surrounding area--simply beautiful. Whether you seek a quiet cottage, a peaceful place surrounded by meadows, a large home for a big extended family or a cozy hideaway for two, you will find the perfect property. Each is equipped with everything from the necessities to luxuries such as full entertainment systems, wireless internet access and plenty of space for the kids to play. Many even welcome your four-legged family members.
