  • Perfect Getaway

"We had the most wonderful time at Ripley Neck cottage! This was our first time renting a house in Maine, and we were seeking something fairly remote and away from the crowds, but still accessible to Acadia and other beautiful places along the coast. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The view from the cottage was unbelievably gorgeous, as stunning as anything else we saw on the Maine coast. What an extraordinary experience to watch the sun rise over the water each morning and to come back to a spotlessly clean and comfortable home in the evening! The cottage has all the amenities you will need for cooking, and George was friendly, professional and available to answer our questions. We can't recommend Ripley Neck Cottage highly enough."

  • Family Vacation for 3 Generations

"We spent the week of July 19th at Tidewatch and had a wonderful time. We lived in Machias, ME when our daughters were young. Now with families of their own, they wanted to show their husbands and kids where they spent 8 years growing up from 1982-90. This house was the perfect rental for us for a couple of reasons. First, the 5 bedroom layout couldn't have been any better for the 8 of us and house had everything we needed. Second, without a doubt, was the location. It was down the road from the first house we lived in...which was right past Roques Bluff State Park.... so that brought back great memories. And, with the beach at the end of the back yard, looking for sea glass, rocks, and shells was a favorite pastime for the kids (2 & 5). Our plan was not to spend every day driving somewhere, which we didn't. One day the kids and grandkids spent a day in Bar Harbor, and another day we all went to West Quoddy Head in Lubec and then went for a whale-watching tour (unfortunately they didn't cooperate!). Most of the time was spent relaxing, catching up with old friends, a little bit of fishing, sea kayaking and enjoying some great lobster...cooked right at home. We definitely will be planning a return trip!"

  • Nice cottage and nice area for exploring the coast of Maine

"We visited in August and had a nice time enjoying the house and the area. We highly recommend both. This house was as advertised - simple, clean, and pleasant. The caretaker was kind, responsive, and helpful. From the living room and the patio there are excellent, close views over the bay. With the thick evergreens and birch tree stands on either side of the property, you can't see the neighbors making it serene and private. The house offered a good value and we were pleased and surprised that despite the rural location we still had a strong signal from Verizon for our phones and for the hot spot internet connection we have for our laptop. The area is quiet and relaxed without the crowds of Mt. Desert Island/Bar Harbor, but still close to them. We visited Bar Harbor for a full day and we enjoyed seeing it. However, we appreciated being able to leave the crowds and return to peaceful Seasmoke. The Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park is nearby. It is beautiful and uncrowded. Walking along the ocean side road is easy with nice hiking trails as well. We loved it and returned the next day with a picnic to enjoy along the rocks. Quoddy Head lighthouse is nice, but take the coastal route through Cutler which is scenic. Nice walks there. The lighthouse was the best of the ones we saw on this trip. We did a lot of walking around the house and animal watching. It was a nice walk to the end of the peninsula, and we seldom saw a car. We saw bald eagles, porcupines, foxes, deer, a seal, and many birds. We also did a boat tour with Robinson's from Milbridge. Excellent and we strongly recommend this in good weather for a beautiful tour of the bays and islands. The town has a good grocery and a few small places to eat. We enjoyed the Mexican take-out restaurant, 44 North for a simple diner dinner, and the Fisherman's wife for sandwiches. The Milbridge House was cheap and good for breakfast, but closed for dinner. We grilled burgers and seafood on the patio two nights. There are several places you can buy fresh seafood that comes right from the town's fishermen- Tibbits was one. In summary, a very nice vacation in a scenic, quiet area with plenty of sights and activities within an hour of this pleasant little house by the water. We would recommend it."

  • Peaceful

"We loved staying here. The house looks exactly like the pictures. We spent a lot of time just sitting and watching the bay, the tide going in and out, the birds and even a few minke whales and harbor seals. Clarks Head Ledge, the rocks visible from the house, was fascinating to watch appearing and disappearing as the tide came in and went out. We loved how the house was decorated and were very comfortable. You need to be looking for a peaceful quiet place to enjoy this house. Not much to do in town except boat rides and ice cream. Bring books and binoculars."
