  • This home saved our summer vacation!

"This is a long overdue review, and truthfully, I didn't want to write one because I want to keep this place a secret. This home was a lifesaver for our family of 7. We had just stayed our 2nd miserable night at another rental in another town and were desperate to find a new place. We would've had a miserable ten-day vacation had we not stumbled upon this place the day before we rented. As soon as we drove up the driveway, everyone was beyond ecstatic that we made the decision to leave the original rental home. It was a very spacious, brand new home, complete with 2 sets of kitchen (upstairs for formal, downstairs for patio dining), generous lawn for playing frisbee and croquet. The owner's family lived nearby and the cousin who took care of us was a wonderful, welcoming face to the property. In short, we were so happy with the beautiful property that we ended up seeing less of Downeast (and Canada) than we had planned. I think my parents were kind of relieved not to be stuck driving around from place to place anyway. Having been to that area 4 summers now, they loved spending a week just sitting on the porch and walking down to their very own beach and kayaking everyday right outside of the home. We were honored to have been the very first guests and I hope we will be coming back to rent this place. It was a calm, elegant, and magical Maine summer just as it should be for everyone."

  • Obvious that the owners go out of their way to ensure their guests have a wonderful stay

"It is a beautifully renovated house with lots of modern features and details from the heated floors in the bathrooms to the modern updated kitchen. The owners were generous in providing everything we could possibly need in the kitchen, laundry, linens, towels - and all in practically new condition. From our past experiences renting homes, this is rare. It is obvious the owners make the extra effort to ensure that their guests are comfortable and have everything they need for their stay. There was even fresh fire wood placed in the fire ring out back waiting for us! Every room in the house is furnished and decorated in a way that invites you to want to stay and linger. Every window in the house has a view. Every bedroom has a view of the water. The back two bedrooms have the most amazing views overlooking the water right from your bed. Imagine waking up to incredible views of the sun rising over the water every morning, or just lying there in the middle of the day thinking you might take a nap but finding that you just can't stop taking in the incredible panoramic views. Every bed was comfortable, including the top of the line sleeper sofa. The only shades on the main level are for the three windows that surround this sleeper sofa in the corner of the room. It was all that was needed. Our elderly family member who has mobility issues said it was an exceptional sofa bed and well designed bathroom. Our elderly family member even found a chair among the comfy seating area to be high enough and supportive enough from which to maneuver in and out easily. The house sits right in the middle of a working fishing community and just feet from the edge of the water. It also sits very close to nearby houses, working docks and a tidal lobster pound facility. Despite the close proximity to these things, it was very quiet and we felt like we had plenty of privacy. Only the birds in the morning were loud. Our elderly family member loved being entertained by this quiet activity near the house when the rest of us left for hiking adventures. Often we never heard the neighbors head out on their fishing boats (it is that quiet!). Sometimes we could hear the church bell tolling on the hour. We loved it all. Definitely takes you to a different time and place - and this beautiful house made us want to stay forever. Owner also provides lots of recommendations on where to eat, go, see and do... (all good!)"

  • Wonderful Cottage on the Ocean

"My wife and I enjoyed a very relaxing honeymoon in the cottage. It had great character including the stone fireplace. It appeared to be an older cottage but was very well updated and maintained. The porch overlooking the ocean was a great place to enjoy meals. It was clean and everything worked well. The location was great to enjoy Acadia National Park and a day trip to Canada. But we also enjoyed just relaxing at the cottage with the beautiful views. The cottage was closer than we expected to the neighbors, who are family of the renters, but they were wonderful neighbors. They allowed us use of their herb garden and allowed us to hang a hammock on their part of the property. Overall it was a great experience and we would love to go back."

  • wonderful time

"This is our third year at this cabin. It is very comfortable. Almost everything we needed was supplied, including puzzles which my son and I spent time doing. We also watch lobster boats checking traps and loons and comarants diving. The owner has always been helpful and prompt. The Sunrise Trail is a terrific nearby railtrail from Elsworth to Ayre Junction, 85 miles. And you shouldn't miss Bar Harbor and Acadia Park, the ocean and scenery are breathtaking. You can avoid the traffic by taking the nearby ferry. Also, don't miss the fresh blueberry pie at Helen's Restaurant in Machias."
