  • Another wonderful stay at the WaterColor Cottage

"This is my second time staying at the WaterColor Cottage, which I loved the first time, when I was with my brother and nephew, and I loved it this time, too! The first time was during a heat wave a year ago, and still it was more than comfortable. This year the weather was idyllic and the cottage is rustic without being primitive, artful without being fussy, and everything was lovely and comfortable. For conscious and conscientious people. A true retreat."

  • The perfect DownEast vacation cottage!

"The cottage was perfect, the hosts friendly and accomodating, and the views better than spectacular. We visited the Reversing Falls in Pembroke, The Salmon hatcheries and research centers in Columbia Falls and East Machias, another clam hatchery on Wass Island, hiking trails from Gouldsboro to Lubec. Great location. Will return. Sooooo much to do, so little time. Can't beat DownEast Maine and the people who live there."

  • Our Second Stay As Nice As Our First

"This is our second year staying in Laura's family's cottage on Gouldsboro Bay, and we hope not the last. It is just as we like it, a bit off the beaten path, a bit rustic but with all the conveniences, oceanfront with a nice view, quiet, and a screened porch - exactly right. Walked with the dog almost every day back to Rogers Point Road, then left out on to the point to the nice cobble beach looking out the Bay. Also highly recommend the hikes a short drive away at Petit Manan Point, in the National Wildlife Refuge, with dogs welcome on leash. Hoping to return to this Gouldsboro Bay camp next year!"

  • Nice cottage and nice area for exploring the coast of Maine

"We visited in August and had a nice time enjoying the house and the area. We highly recommend both. This house was as advertised - simple, clean, and pleasant. The caretaker was kind, responsive, and helpful. From the living room and the patio there are excellent, close views over the bay. With the thick evergreens and birch tree stands on either side of the property, you can't see the neighbors making it serene and private. The house offered a good value and we were pleased and surprised that despite the rural location we still had a strong signal from Verizon for our phones and for the hot spot internet connection we have for our laptop. The area is quiet and relaxed without the crowds of Mt. Desert Island/Bar Harbor, but still close to them. We visited Bar Harbor for a full day and we enjoyed seeing it. However, we appreciated being able to leave the crowds and return to peaceful Seasmoke. The Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park is nearby. It is beautiful and uncrowded. Walking along the ocean side road is easy with nice hiking trails as well. We loved it and returned the next day with a picnic to enjoy along the rocks. Quoddy Head lighthouse is nice, but take the coastal route through Cutler which is scenic. Nice walks there. The lighthouse was the best of the ones we saw on this trip. We did a lot of walking around the house and animal watching. It was a nice walk to the end of the peninsula, and we seldom saw a car. We saw bald eagles, porcupines, foxes, deer, a seal, and many birds. We also did a boat tour with Robinson's from Milbridge. Excellent and we strongly recommend this in good weather for a beautiful tour of the bays and islands. The town has a good grocery and a few small places to eat. We enjoyed the Mexican take-out restaurant, 44 North for a simple diner dinner, and the Fisherman's wife for sandwiches. The Milbridge House was cheap and good for breakfast, but closed for dinner. We grilled burgers and seafood on the patio two nights. There are several places you can buy fresh seafood that comes right from the town's fishermen- Tibbits was one. In summary, a very nice vacation in a scenic, quiet area with plenty of sights and activities within an hour of this pleasant little house by the water. We would recommend it."
