"Sea Smoke cottage provides the quintessential Maine experience--a charming cottage, very clean, right on the water, beautiful views of the bay, nestled in an evergreen forest, wildlife in abundance. The words that came to my mind as we stayed there recently were: serene, peaceful, relaxing. There are no neighbors in sight! The cottage is conveniently arranged with an open floor plan with large glass doors across the front, providing excellent views from the living, dining, and kitchen areas. The kitchen is well equipped with all the necessities, and more--including a large lobster-cooking pot. The bedrooms are comfortable--I always look for bedside tables and lamps on both sides--and I wasn't disappointed. The cottage is spotlessly clean, and has good quality bed linens and towels. There's a convenient laundry room--I know that sounds mundane, but if you're traveling with children, or just trying to keep packing at a minimum--it's so good to have handy laundry facilities. There's even a small line for hanging damp things. The landscaping shows the attention to detail that the owners provide, with colorful blooming plants and neatly kept surroundings.
A word about location. We found the location of the cottage to be ideal. It is close enough to drive to various places for sight-seeing. Two places that we enjoyed were Schoodic Peninsula, a part of Acadia National Park, and Campobello, just across the border in Canada. The little coastal villages in the area are also a lot of fun to visit. A company in Milbridge, Robertsons', offers a wonderful boat trip out into the bay, with great wildlife sightings and beautiful scenery all along the ride. However, we also enjoyed quiet times just staying at the cottage--reading, painting, relaxing, or taking a stroll out to the end of the peninsula. There are excellent restaurants within easy driving distance, but the cottage is also a great place to eat in. We found the grocery store in Milbridge to have the supplies that we needed. Also in Milbridge was Joshie's, a drive-up restaurant with excellent fish and chips, and Milbridge House, which has good breakfasts--including blueberry pancakes, a must if you're visiting Maine."
