  • Peaceful

"We loved staying here. The house looks exactly like the pictures. We spent a lot of time just sitting and watching the bay, the tide going in and out, the birds and even a few minke whales and harbor seals. Clarks Head Ledge, the rocks visible from the house, was fascinating to watch appearing and disappearing as the tide came in and went out. We loved how the house was decorated and were very comfortable. You need to be looking for a peaceful quiet place to enjoy this house. Not much to do in town except boat rides and ice cream. Bring books and binoculars."

  • Nice cottage and nice area for exploring the coast of Maine

"We visited in August and had a nice time enjoying the house and the area. We highly recommend both. This house was as advertised - simple, clean, and pleasant. The caretaker was kind, responsive, and helpful. From the living room and the patio there are excellent, close views over the bay. With the thick evergreens and birch tree stands on either side of the property, you can't see the neighbors making it serene and private. The house offered a good value and we were pleased and surprised that despite the rural location we still had a strong signal from Verizon for our phones and for the hot spot internet connection we have for our laptop. The area is quiet and relaxed without the crowds of Mt. Desert Island/Bar Harbor, but still close to them. We visited Bar Harbor for a full day and we enjoyed seeing it. However, we appreciated being able to leave the crowds and return to peaceful Seasmoke. The Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia National Park is nearby. It is beautiful and uncrowded. Walking along the ocean side road is easy with nice hiking trails as well. We loved it and returned the next day with a picnic to enjoy along the rocks. Quoddy Head lighthouse is nice, but take the coastal route through Cutler which is scenic. Nice walks there. The lighthouse was the best of the ones we saw on this trip. We did a lot of walking around the house and animal watching. It was a nice walk to the end of the peninsula, and we seldom saw a car. We saw bald eagles, porcupines, foxes, deer, a seal, and many birds. We also did a boat tour with Robinson's from Milbridge. Excellent and we strongly recommend this in good weather for a beautiful tour of the bays and islands. The town has a good grocery and a few small places to eat. We enjoyed the Mexican take-out restaurant, 44 North for a simple diner dinner, and the Fisherman's wife for sandwiches. The Milbridge House was cheap and good for breakfast, but closed for dinner. We grilled burgers and seafood on the patio two nights. There are several places you can buy fresh seafood that comes right from the town's fishermen- Tibbits was one. In summary, a very nice vacation in a scenic, quiet area with plenty of sights and activities within an hour of this pleasant little house by the water. We would recommend it."

  • Secluded Maine getaway

"What a great place! The pictures and description of the house were as advertised, maybe better. The owners met us upon arrival to ensure we had everything we needed. They were excellent to deal with at every step of the rental process including the prompt return of our security & pet deposit. We brought our miniature schnauzer with no issues. She was able to use the fenced in yard allowing us to not have to put her on a leash every time she needed to go out. Our three children, ages 11-16, loved hanging out, climbing on the rocky coast in the back yard and playing board games left by the owners. The television has a satellite connection and was perfect when we wanted to use it. The WiFi was adequate for our needs, but if someone wanted fast connection speeds they may be disappointed. This home is truly secluded which we thoroughly enjoyed, but make no mistake, it is secluded. The nearest store of any kind is 15 minutes away by car. The owners directed us to the nearest fishing dock (10 min drive) where we went on two separate occasions to buy lobster and clams. The house is very well equipped for all of your cooking needs. The washer and drying worked well allowing us to catch up on laundry during our long road trip. The deck overlooks the water and is a perfect place to do nothing. The home, both inside and out, has lots of places to sit down with others or by yourself. Doors and windows all have screens allowing a wonderful breeze to move through the house. Acadia National Park is about 1 ½ hours away and worth the drive. Plan to spend a full day if you decide to make the trip. We did not use the two apartments on the property but they are right next to the main house and would be perfect for a larger gathering."

  • Very Nice Cottage and Owner

"This beautiful cottage was designed and built by the owner Ray and his wife. It is open and airy and even better than the pictures. The cottage was perfectly cleaned when we arrived and stocked with everything that we needed for our stay. Ray greeted us as we pulled up, let us unload our gear, and then came by to tell us about the cottage, and the area. He really went the extra mile for us, and that alone is a major reason to recommend this cottage. There is a second cottage on the property that the owner use, so they are generally there if you need them. The cottage is located across a two lane road from the oceanfront, and a kind neighbor lets you cross his property to access the rocky beach. In the morning you can hear the lobster boats going out. During our first couple of days here, we did not feel the need to drive anywhere. There are two nature areas within an easy walk from the cottage, and the walks provided there kept us occupied. Bar Harbor, Lubec, and Corea are all an easy drive away for outings. There is also a good grocery store, and a great Mexican restaurant in Milbridge. Don't expect your cell phone to work here, and the provided wi-fi was pretty weak. But, you can walk up to the entrance of the hike up Pigeon Hill, and you will get cell phone data access."
