"This is exactly what you want when you go to Maine. Great location at the end of a dirt road so it was very private (we brought our dogs and they loved the yard and we felt safe with them being able to run). Wallace's market is close by for the essentials and an awesome lobster roll. You can be at the docks getting super fresh lobster within minutes. We were really relaxed and thought the house had great amenities, like the kayaks, grills and board games. The deck was fantastic and we spent a lot of time on it just enjoying the great view to the cove"

"I hesitate to write a great review of Laughing Gull Cottage because I want to keep it all to myself and have it available whenever we want to go back--which in a perfect world would be all the time. But, unfortunately, we loved Laurie and Tom so much that I have to be honest. The cottage is peaceful, beautiful and just the right amount of rustic. The crashing waves right outside the bedroom window, the Adirondack chairs on the water's edge and the spectacular view made one day feel like a week away. Having never been to Maine before, we didn't know what to expect of New Harbor and the Pemaquid Peninsula. When we booked the cottage, we wanted a quiet area--not too touristy. But as we got closer I worried that my husband and two teenage daughters would be bored, that we needed a more bustling area like nearby Boothbay. How wrong I was! We kayaked, went on the Puffin tour, spent a day in Portland, a day in Round Pond, saw Irish fiddlers in a restored one-room schoolhouse, ate the best cinnamon buns at the Cupboard, crab cakes at Muscongus Bay Lobster, lobster rolls at Shaws, fish and chips at the Contented Sole, and pretty much ate Maine wild blueberries the rest of the trip. We never even made it to the beach! I guess we'll leave that for next time."

Nice, comfortable and unconventional house near the Maine coast
"We were travelling with two adults and a boy (14) and enjoyed our stay at the Souler house. The location is quiet and at night it gets almost completely dark, yet Wiscasset is near enough. We missed sitting outside, though, because there is no real terrace. It is not easy to find hiking trails either; a map or some descriptions of nearby walks would come in handy."

"My daughter and her husband joined us at this wonderful location. The house was located with a beautiful view of the bay. It was peaceful and quiet, the sun rises were stunning. the home is well equipped, clean and host was very attentive. Later in the week another couple joined us. We enjoyed eating at Rollie's in Belfast (only 10 minutes drive south). One day was spent in the Bar Harbor area. (beautiful area) Belfast is really the best area for grocery shopping and eating. We all enjoyed our stay and hope to return again next year only we plan to stay at least two weeks. This was my second time in Maine and I hope to return, the others in our party had never been in this area and loved it. Thanks for a wonderful week."
