"The pictures do not do justice to this lovely, lovely vacation home that sits across the street from the bay and has water rights. It is spacious, beautifully decorated with original art, and very private. There are two beautiful outdoor spaces -- a deck off the dining room (with a 4-burner gas grill) and a patio that is set in the middle of an English-style cottage garden. The kitchen is fully equipped for making meals at home. Our family had an amazing time recharging from our city living, and the house's proximity to Acadia (1.5 hours north) and Camden Hills State Park (20 minutes south) made that very easy. Belfast, the nearest town, has not been overrun by tourism (although there are plenty of quaint shops to purchase Maine souvenirs and a Hannafords nearby for staples and groceries). As an added bonus, the house is not too far from mid-coast attractions (Camden, Rockport, Rockland). The owners made sure that they were available for any questions we may have had, but they were never intrusive. Two things: the master suite is open to a sitting room below (but still offers plenty of privacy) and broadband is limited, so if you're a family that needs to plug in, be prepared to use your cell services."

"Everything was perfect when we arrived, including replacement of down pillows and comforter to accommodate a severe feather allergy. As frequent guests to Spruce Point inn in the past we know the Booth Bay Harbor area very well and have always said "someday we will stay at Retreat Cottage" but since we could never plan far ahead it was always booked. This year we are moving to the West Coast so this was our last Maine vacation - we never dreamed the cottage would be available but it was.
The cottage is small - perfect for two adults and is so peaceful. We started and ended each day sitting in the chairs out front - coffee in the morning; wine in the evening. The kitchen is small but thanks to our manager, Sue we learned of Eventide and were able to pick up some very nice cheeses, meats and breads for anti pasto We also stopped at the York Farmer's market on the way up and got some meats and veggies. It was easy to whip up a gourmet meal a couple of days - and the others we headed to Muscongus Bay Trading Company in Round Pond which is a long time favorte.
Having a chance for an evening sail on our last night made the entire trip perfect.
Thank you Susan for helping to make this happen and to our host John Druce who elected to keep the Retreat Cottage and maje u available for special memories."

"If you're bound for mid-coast Maine and don't have to be on the water, this property offers a great central location great yard and tennis court for the kids (of any age) to play on, and biking to beach, bay, nature areas. Cozy/comfy house had everything we needed for our 2 adult, 2 children family. Endless activities included beach time, kayaking, festival at the Fort, lobster boat races, golf 10 minutes away, biking, tennis, swimming, hiking and a museum/window shopping day in Rockland. There are plenty of restaurants if you want to take a break from the well-stocked kitchen. We'd recommend the property to anyone!"

"Everything the other reviews say about Aquahela cottage is true. The house and beach are exactly as pictured in the photos. The location is stunningly beautiful and very private. The house is comfortable, clean and delightfully idiosyncratic, clearly built and decorated with love, not a sterile rental property.
There are lots of things to see in the area, though the place is so beautiful we spent many days lounging on the deck or lying in the grass next to the ocean. We visited the Pemaquid Lighthouse, kayaked in the Pemaquid harbor, checked out the old fort there, and found a hidden gem, the Verna nature preserve, where a trail through sweet-smelling woods leads to a true ocean coast, with huge rocks and crashing waves. There are many great seafood places, but if you want a change of pace (and you're up for an hour's drive and a splurge--not cheap) dinner at Tau Yuan in Brunswick is a unique experience. The food is superb, and unlike any Chinese food we've ever had in either San Francisco or New York City.
Laura was a pleasure to interact with. She is efficient, straightforward and gracious (she sent us a thank-you card with the return of our deposit!).
My partner and I stumbled on the cottage at the last minute, and still can't believe our luck--it was booked solid but someone had cancelled their reservation. We're planning to reserve a week next summer now!"
