A GRAND DOWAGER ....SHE PRESIDES OVER PENOBSCOT BAY....BEAUTIFUL
"We drove along and then saw her this grand old house. She sat on a crest of green lawn with glorious views of the bay.The porch in back along the whole length and side was our first rest. The inside architectural accents were so appealing and the fireplace was provided with more than enough wood which we used every night. A big plus is that the beds were great...I have rented on VRBO and been once greatly disappointed but not at his house. The dining room is a grand room with wonderful lights all around from another year. The eyebrow latticed entry made you wonder about the men who built it...so talented. There were wonderful mementos of children and adults....shells all around...little rocks in the dining room drawer with names of probably all the adults and all the little ones to be used as place markers. The so comfortable leather chairs in the living room cushioned me each morning with a cup of coffee. I love Pee-G hydrangeas and big vase of them was on the coffee table. This is a house that has not been ruined by "updating"....the tubs are grand old tubs, the light switches are the old button type I love. The kitchen is so well stocked with stem ware, dishes and flatware....the old style sink was great. If you are so uptight that you must have a completely "modern" kitchen then think again. This one has every comfort. This is a great opportunity to live with a grand staircase, soaring ceilings, well done stepping stones to the bay below, a refrigerator from another era brought to this time by engineer skill. You might think you were of the privileged class just after the turn of the century. You will love this place. You will be privileged."

"The location of Plummer Point was really nice. It is in the woods overlooking the river and it is also close to the town of Damariscotta with a huge grocery store, and two days of outside farmer's markets and a farm stand which is open every day for fresh veggies, etc. The house is comfortable both inside and out for reading, watching the lobster boats on the river, watching the many small birds on the feeder as well as the red squirrels and chipmunks checking out the fallen seeds. The screened in porch was nice for dinners outside without the bugs. And for our large group having a dishwasher was terrific. The teenagers loved the lodge for playing cards and being independent from the adults. We hiked the trails right outside our door, used the canoe and kayaks while watching the seals and terns. We found it was easier to launch the boats at high tide rather than haul them over the rocks at low tide. We bought great lobsters at Osiers in South Bristol near the swing bridge and sat on the deck at Coveside overlooking the marina and the osprey in the nest in the daymark which marks the ledge entering Christmas Cove. We explored the Pemaquid peninsula including the Pemaquid Beach, the lighthouse on Pemaquid Point, New Harbor where we took the Hardy boat to Monhegan Island for the day. We also took a Damariscotta River Cruise and learned about oyster farming on the river. This was a great place for an active family as well as for a group that wants to read, relax and commune with nature. It fit our family group of eight perfectly. It has something for everyone."

"I stayed at An Tigin while taking a one-week art course at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The cottage was a perfect choice except that instead of studying and practicing what I had learned in class all day, I was so distracted by the beauty of An Tigin's setting, I relaxed and decided the studying could wait until another time. I enjoyed the comings and goings of the tide, the bright glow of the moon, the flashing sparkles of many fireflies, and the delightful flowers in the gardens. Southport Island is a tranquil place, yet it is close enough to the hustle and bustle of Boothbay Harbor. An Tigin exceeded all of my expectations as a comfortable, cozy, and classic Maine retreat. The cottage is bright, it is joyful, it is clean, and the views are extra special. Brooke has created a very unique bit of history on the coast of Maine and what a pleasure it is to escape from the madding crowds to a place where romance grows, and glows, all around you."
