"Online and approaching appears a fantastic vacation cottage, but upon entering one realizes it is truly a lovely decorated and totally comfortable home. The owners paid attention to detail and certainly did not hesitate to think of the comfort of their renters. We always relaxed on either of the two perfect porches. Georgetown's seemingly remote location is a large part of its attraction as the area offers beautiful views, picturesque sunsets, a nearby private beach - all to be enjoyed in extreme quiet. The drive from the highway to Georgetown has to be executed cautiously but is not without its merit. We saw herds of as well as individual deer on every trip. Georgetown is a paradise for anyone who loves being on, in, or near beautiful bodies of water. It is certainly a kayaker's dream. The girls, ages four and six, loved searching for sea glass at the private beach and for sand dollars at Popham Beach (forty minutes away but well worth the time). Should one tire of the sand and surf, there are boat tours, shopping, and great restaurants in nearby Bath and Brunswick. Two of our favorites were Five Islands Lobster Company and the Sea Dogs Brewery (totally acceptable restaurant for children). We all loved every minute we spent at the beach home as well as in and near Georgetown! We're looking forward to a return stay."

Perfect Location for Relishing Island Life on Islesboro
"What a wonderful location on the island for slowing down, taking a deep breath, and relishing life on Islesboro. The lovely home sits in the middle of the island so it's easy to go up-island or down-island. Plus you have a true sense of privacy. Adirondack chairs that sit next to a short drop-off overlooking the Penobscot Bay or sitting on the property's beach were our family's go-to places to read, zone, meditate, or write. Even our 2 teens got into this pattern. They also thoroughly enjoyed the provided kayaks w/ PFDs for exploring the calm bay. Poking around on the property's beach, especially at low-tide, with no time constraints --- heaven! The island has 2 small markets (Durkee's and Island Market) that have a surprisingly nice variety of groceries/household supplies and each are a very short drive from the house. Be sure to research your food options & store hrs ahead of time so you know what you'll want to bring with you from the mainland though. The home has a generous amount of towels/linens and a nice variety of kitchen pots/pans/dishes, including an outdoor propane-fueled lobster cooker. Free WIFI is available 24/7 just a 10 min walk down the road at the public library. Thank you Alan for making your home available for those of us that relish living a more quiet, serene life, even if just for a week."

"My wife and two college/high school-age sons spent a beautiful relaxing week. My favorite activity: sit on the porch with a good book and the gorgeous views of the bay and out to the ocean -- sometimes busy but not disturbing with lobsterman and other boats, plus ducks and osprey diving for fish out front, couple of seals out in the harbor, and what I think was a mink or otter late one afternoon. The photos are accurate, it's truly beautiful. Kitchen is a bit rustic, again as advertised, but everything works and it's fully stocked with all the kitchen gear you need. Upstairs bedrooms also rustic but charming and clean. Towels/linens provided and plentiful. We enjoyed easy day trips to Freeport for LL Bean and Rockland to see friends -- and Red's in Wiscasset is a must for lobster roll and fried clams (standing in line is half the fun). Best meal on Southport: Newagen Seaside Inn -- and Robinson's Wharf is good for lobster -- both no more than 5 minutes from the house. The landlord was very accessible and helpful, no problems at all. Still dreaming of the view off the porch while sweltering in DC writing this!"
