  • Location, Location, Location!!!

"The Tides certainly lives up to the description of "breathtaking ocean views." We rented the house for a week with two other couples and every single one of us had the same reaction when we walked out onto the deck for the first time - "WOW!" We all quickly got into the habit of getting up early, grabbing a cup of coffee and heading out to the deck to watch the boats in the little harbor as they came and went, with the cocktail hour spent in the same manner. Throughout the entire week, none of us grew at all tired of just looking out over the perfectly manicured property to the water. At the entrance of the harbor is Andrew Wythe's island (his son, Jamie, evidently lives there now), and the one evening it was foggy the island seemed to appear and disappear repeatedly, a truly memorable sight. The house itself was immaculate, with so many charming personal touches that it felt much more like a real home than a rental property. The owner, Skye Bruce, was very pleasant and helpful. The location itself was perfect - one of our company enjoyed taking a short walk each morning to the Tenants Harbor General Store for the daily papers, several evenings we went next door to the East Wind Inn for a delicious dinner, and also found the Inn a wonderful place for breakfast (the blueberry pancakes are awesome). Thomaston was about 20 minutes away, Rockland about 25 minutes, and Port Clyde less than 15. Port Clyde has a fascinating general store where you can get everything from fresh-off-the-boat live lobsters to pizza, and a lovely gift shop upstairs. The Dip Net restaurant in back of the store was a favorite spot for lunch, and a great ice cream shop is just up the street. We were there early in June, and several of the restaurants that we had wanted to try didn't open until the middle of the month, but two that we would heartily recommend are the Craignair Inn in Spruce Head, which has great charm, and the Harpoon Restaurant between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde (the bar there is lively, with peanut shells on the floor, and the separate dining room is decorated in a fun, eclectic manner with great food). The one issue which I feel should be mentioned is that the house does consist of several levels, and the stairs are all quite steep and narrow (although the owners have provided sturdy railings), and this could present a problem for anyone having mobility issues. Other than that, I would not only recommend The Tides, but hope to return in the future!"

  • Family Reunion Week

"This is the second time in the last four Summers that we have rented this cottage for a reunion with our two sons and grandchildren. There was plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate all three families and we had a great time. The weather was beautiful all week and we spent a lot of time in the water swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. The hot tub was also nice even though we didn't use it much as the weather was very warm and we preferred being refreshed in the cooler waters of the pond. The cottage is well stocked with cooking pots, pans, and dishes so all we had to do was supply the food. It was an extremely enjoyable and relaxful week, other than when the two one-year olds were crying, and we will hopefully get to return again in the future. This is a very nice vacation home!"

  • Peaceful and Relaxing

"If your looking for a quiet place to forget about work and just enjoy reading and watching the kids swim this is the perfect place. Not to mention the beautiful lake and paddling the canoes which was so amazing. Both our boys 4 and 6 were able to wade in the front of the property. The water front is clear and rock bottom for about 10-20 feet before you get into the Lilly pads. For adult swimming we took the canoe out to the raft and swam out there. I don't ever like to touch lake bottom so this was perfect just to cool off and float around. The best part was when my family came to visit, the boys went on the canoe and caught a fish, that was amazing. The cabin is clean and comfortable, we had great internet service and were able to stream netfllix on our tablets. Lobster was at an all time low, and we ate plenty on the great picnic table, lobster pot at the cabin made cooking easy. The beds were comfortable. This was a perfect place for us to meet up with friends and family. It was like camping out with all the fixings of home. The area is quite and allowed for my husband and I to get our morning jogs completed without traffic. My sister who lives lives in Portland is thinking of renting the cabin in the future just to come and enjoy the lake and relax with a nightly camp fire. We were close enough to the ocean to enjoy the water and yet far enough to enjoy the peace of being at the lake. Darmiscotta state park is only a few minutes down the road with a sandy beach and great for a picnic. Thanks so much for your cabin it was a perfect."

  • Wonderful Vacation Home!

"I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to enjoy their vacation in a beautiful, spotless, comfortable, spacious, well equipped home in a fabulous location with water access. I have rented several houses in Mid Coast Maine over the past several years and this is hands down one of the best. This house exceeded our expectations. The amenities are fabulous, especially the kayaks and the dock. The family of loons on the lake were just an added delight! The owners are extremely helpful in answering all questions and concerns in a timely manner. Don't even think twice about this fabulous place!"
