  • Love Round Pond!

"My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful week in this lovely, well stocked cottage on the banks of Round Pond, Maine. Laura's driving directions were perfect and we were pleasantly surprised by what we found on arrival. A well stocked, pretty little cottage in the woods. We shared the cottage with our 30 year old niece for the first two nights and the space was perfect for the three of us. The grill worked well for our outdoor cooking needs. Our favorite meals out included two excellent meals at Anhor Inn, a delicious lobster to be had at Muscongus Bay Lobster Co., and morning visits with Dot and Joe at Dot's Bakery, all within two miles of this quaint cottage! We took two trips to the Camden area and enjoye a five-star dining experience at Primo, in Rockland. Day trips included a visit to Damariscotta, a refreshing dip in the Bristol Pond, a bone-chilling swim in the ocean at Pemaquid Beach, the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and a very fun voyage to Monhegan Island on the Hardy Boat! We've been travelling to Maine annually, from Wisconsin, for over 30 years to visit family in Portland. Being tourists in Maine is a somewhat new experience for us. Round Pond, it's environs, and most of all this lovely cottage, all contributed to one of our best vacations yet! The only drawback was the Mosquitos at sunset. But, the cottage was well stocked with repellant! Oh, who is the little old lady that walks down the hill on the property for her daily swim in the ocean?"

  • Spectacular location

"Good stuff first. We stayed here with my family as sort of a reunion. My Parents, my sister & spouse, my brother & spouse. The house only sleeps six and they are VERY firm about this. No squeezing people in on the couch. That being the case my husband and I stayed with relatives until my brother left (they were only with us part of the week) We moved over on Tuesday. The house is situated on a cliff and views of the ocean are stunning and the house is designed so that you are able to see the ocean from not only the living room(sliders that open onto a deck)but also the master bedroom. the sound of the waves crashing on the cliffs below is deafening. Spent mornings drinking coffee on the deck and If you are up early enough, you will be able to see Lobster boats pulling in traps right in front of you.At night with a glass of wine is even better. Coming home I can honestly say that I missed the sound of the waves very, very badly! We had the good fortune of spectacular weather (only one day of fog) and being able to view many sunrises and moon sets over the water, Gorgeous! I cannot stress enough how healing and magical it is. There is a wood burning fireplace (buy your own firewood) We took advantage of the fireplace on the foggy day and it was very relaxing to have a "stay in" day with a nice fire, it took the chill and the damp out and we enjoyed some old movies. One of the bedrooms has a small library with a nice selection of Books. I will recommend "Lighthouse Horrors" for some good old fashioned scary stories (Perfect reading for being in Maine on vacation with the sound of the waves in the background)The ocean is accessible by means of a steep path to the left of the house & there is a rope rigged up to assist you getting down to the cliffs, spent many hours just laying on the rocks and sunning & reading. Do not advise swimming here as the waves and the currents are too strong. Now the bad;The living room furniture needs updating. It is comfortable but worn. The dishwasher turns on at random, the dryer was not in good working order,TV is ancient &Flat screens are so cheap nowadays. No excuse not to update especially for over $2000.00 a week. The guest bedroom queen mattress needs replacement, old and probably one of the most uncomfortable mattresses my husband and I have ever slept & we traveled all over the world, (all of Europe) They need to update this mattress! Other then this id recommend this property."

  • Perfect Silver Wedding Anniversary Retreat

"We're from the UK and visited Pemaquid Point 4 years ago and fell in love with it. I went straight home and found this cottage online and have been saving it for a special event. As you can imagine my hopes and expectations were pretty high and I'm very happy to say they were met and exceeded. Laura was very friendly & efficient from the start, answering all my questions promptly by email and quickly returning our deposit after our stay. The cottage is in the most perfect location on its own little sandy beach. It faces west so we enjoyed some beautiful sunsets but the sun also appeared quickly in the morning so we had several breakfasts on the deck in the sunshine. We enjoyed some beautiful weather for late Sept/Early October and enjoyed cocktails on the beach as well as just chilling out & reading on the deck. When the weather wasn't so kind we just chilled out in the very comfy lounge with the doors open, enjoying the views and listening to the sea. The garden is a bit of a nature lovers dream. Monarch butterflies visited the asters and we watched loons, cormorants and seals from bed. We were also lucky to see 2 bald eagles flying over the deck. The cottage comes well equipped with wildlife identification books and we made full use of the telescope and binoculars for wildlife and star gazing. The bedroom has the same fabulous views. We slept with the windows opened and listened to the sea. The bed was very comfortable - I rarely sleep through when we're on holiday but did on this trip. The kitchen is very well equipped, as is the whole cottage - just those little things like arriving to find loo paper, coffee filters, tea kettle, soap, salt & pepper, washing up liquid, powerful shower, working WiFi make all the difference. We ate out at King Eiders Pub in Damariscotta a couple of times and Shaws at New Harbour. However we fell in love with the cupboard café, which is a couple of miles away, and their cinnamon buns - we breakfasted there 4 times in one week. We drove over to Mount Battie at Camden and Marhsall Point Lighthouse ( both about an hour ) and also went to the Botanical Gardens ( 45 minutes ) and Freeport for LL Bean ( 1 hr ) and, of course, the lighthouse and Pemaquid Beach. We've stayed at many vacation rentals worldwide and this made for one of the best holidays we've had. Thank you"

  • Beautiful views, private, relaxing and comfortable!

"This is a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all. The setting is very private and the views are fabulous! The photos do not capture the wonderful view from the kitchen/dining and living rooms. The sound of the ocean can be heard from every room in the house. The living areas were spacious and the house was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen and outdoor gas grill made it easy to make wonderful meals and enjoy the view at the same time. We especially enjoyed climbing on the rocks and watching the various birds, boats as well as the crashing waves. We had fabulous weather-- even the one storm was amazing to watch from the living room. Boat trips to Monhegan Island and to watch the puffins, as well as a day sail were easy from here. We really want to come back again! Thank you for sharing your special home!"
