"This is our 2nd year of renting this fantastic home in this beautiful area of Maine. Our family has been coming to this area for over 50 years and decided 2 years ago to look for a house in the area that would serve our family better. we got lucky and found this home and it was available for the week we wanted. Our 99 year old Mom just loves this home. It is so beautiful, clean, and just feels like a home. You cannot believe how peaceful this location is. Each morning we bring our cup of tea and sit on the deck and watch the lobster boats, kayaks, and sailboats pass by. The pool is just fantastic and so refreshing after a day at the beach. There is plenty to do in this area and the owners ( who are just great) have done a wonderful job providing anyone who rents the house a very detailed booklet of places of interest around the area. The rest of our family rent other homes in the area and we just have the best time setting up down at our favorite beach( there are several to pick from in this area) each day and having quality family time together. we cannot say enough about what a great home this is and how the owners do everything they can to provide every comfort and amenity for their renters. This place is simply the best!!!!! Hopefully next year our children and grandchildren will be able to join us. There is plenty of room and this house has everything you could need and more. we cannot wait till next year!!!!!"

"My husband and I spent a week in August here and absolutely loved it. The house is as bright, immaculate, and beautifully decorated as in the pictures, and the views really are that good. The neighborhood is very walkable and charming and the neighbors are friendly. We rented kayaks for the week from someone just down the street and were able to beach them in the cove at the end of the neighborhood, about a 5 minute walk from the house-- very convenient. We bought some art from another neighbor who has a stunning studio in her home.
The only caveat is that the water is not drinkable and you must bring your own-- they provided a gallon which for us was not enough but we didn't re-stock early enough so go ahead and bring more than you think you need! Also, if you are a person who wants long showers or baths, this is not the place for you. Only a stand-up shower that isn't designed to run for a long period of time (water well).
Our hosts were helpful, responsive, and hospitable. They even shared some of their fresh-caught Maine lobsters and showed us how to prepare them! This was one of our best vacations and we hope to return."

"Our family of grandparents, adult children and grandchildren had a very nice time in this home for 10 days in August. Sleeping space was good, although there are no blinds so we made a makeshift curtain for the kids' room to keep out morning sun. We all had fun with the kayaks and swimming from the dock. However it was further away from the house than we anticipated- down the road and then down a path so not at all visible from the house. We made trips to Boothbay Harbor for the puffin boat trip, lighthouses, aquarium. Plenty to do and see from this location. We cooked all our meals in the roomy kitchen."

"Everything was perfect when we arrived, including replacement of down pillows and comforter to accommodate a severe feather allergy. As frequent guests to Spruce Point inn in the past we know the Booth Bay Harbor area very well and have always said "someday we will stay at Retreat Cottage" but since we could never plan far ahead it was always booked. This year we are moving to the West Coast so this was our last Maine vacation - we never dreamed the cottage would be available but it was.
The cottage is small - perfect for two adults and is so peaceful. We started and ended each day sitting in the chairs out front - coffee in the morning; wine in the evening. The kitchen is small but thanks to our manager, Sue we learned of Eventide and were able to pick up some very nice cheeses, meats and breads for anti pasto We also stopped at the York Farmer's market on the way up and got some meats and veggies. It was easy to whip up a gourmet meal a couple of days - and the others we headed to Muscongus Bay Trading Company in Round Pond which is a long time favorte.
Having a chance for an evening sail on our last night made the entire trip perfect.
Thank you Susan for helping to make this happen and to our host John Druce who elected to keep the Retreat Cottage and maje u available for special memories."
