  • Most peaceful week ever!

"My husband and I spent a week at this wonderful property to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and his birthday, which was during our stay. It was amazing to look out on salt water from so many windows and each time we stepped outside! The view from the house is mesmerizing, with a gorgeous sunrise every morning. I never tired of photographing the sunrise, even though the pictures are all very similar. Higgins Island makes the view more interesting out front, and the cove is peaceful while the waters just beyond are more active. We had fun walking out to, and around, Higgins Island during low tide. There is a trail head at the end of the road which splits, one way going to the island, and the other into the woods and around a beaver pond. They are set aside for our enjoyment by the Islesboro Island Trust, which has at least a dozen such spots on the island. We hiked them all, and we bicycled all over the island. It is a great island for cycling! Michael could not be more charming and thoughtful and kind; he was an excellent communicator and very helpful. The house was exactly as shown in the photographs, and the long lawn reaching to the water, studded with apple trees and four Adirondack chairs, is like Paradise. A family of deer visited each evening to collect the apples that had fallen that day from the tree. The house is both elegant and comfortable. In a day or two, it felt like home. By the end of the week, I wanted to buy it. Michael's book collection and record collection are impressive, and my husband could have spent a few more months just looking at the books. We were afraid to touch the stereo and records, even though it is okay with Michael. As people who are usually very "plugged in" it was good for us not to have internet for a week. It is a great reminder that a retreat from the hustle bustle of the world can be very good for the soul, and for the relationship too. I almost feel that I cannot get a real vacation from work anymore unless I can put in my out-of-the-office auto-reply that I am on an island in Maine (or somewhere) where there is no internet. There are fewer and fewer places like that. The break from TV didn't hurt either. We read, hiked, biked, and I knitted a sweater! We cooked and ate and explored. I would not be at all surprised if we go back next year. Thank you so much, Michael, for sharing your lovely Cape with people you do not even know. It is a great act of generosity."

"Landings East was absolutely wonderful. Location was great, all you have to do is park your car and walk to everything. The view was even better!! Enjoyed coffee on the large deck every morning and drinks in the evening. The owners Shane & Gene were so hospitable and made our stay one we will never forget. The home was so clean and comfortable and had everything you could ask for. If you want the perfect place to stay for a great price stay at Landings East. Thanks again to Shane and Gene for a vacation we will never forget. We hope to be back next year!"

  • Perfect vacation

"We spent a week in July at the Camp with our two sons, grandparents and a dog. We all had something interesting to do. Family time, serene scenery of the Sandy Pond, woods, listening to birds chirping, fishing, sailing, canoeing, day trips to hike in Acadia National Park, grilling, eating meals out on the deck, bird watching, swimming in the lake, those were only few of the attractions that we enjoyed. The advertising description of the camp was very accurate and the cabin included all home luxuries one my need, full kitchen, comfy beds, full bath, toys/books for kids, TV with DVD player, and even some good movies. The owner came by early in the morning to put up a sailboat for us to use, Grandpa sailed every day and took our sons to learn the skill of sailing. The owners also left us a crate of eggs from their free range chickens, what a nice welcome! Our minds, souls and bodies were rejuvenated during that week of vacation. It was exactly if not even more than we dreamed of, even the weather cooperated. We would go back there in a heartbeat. We would recommend this Private Family Camp to all who love nature, enjoy active recreation and are looking for peace and quiet."

  • Perfect location for visiting Camden Maine

"House is within easy walking distance to all the restaurants and shops in Camden. Directly across the street is Camden Harbor. Plenty of benches and areas to just sit and relax and enjoy the harbor. Also, the Camden Public Library is just down the street. Very nice little library. Upon arriving the house was immaculately clean. All the bedrooms had very comfortable beds and bedding. The dining room has a large table with plenty of seating. The side of the house has spacious decking with chairs and a table. The only con's - Limited parking space for the house and no TV in the downstairs main living area. It would have been nice to have a fire pit in the backyard. Overall I felt this was a very good rental. If you are visiting Camden this is a good place to stay."

Mid-Coast & Islands Travel Tips

Maine Rentals for Picturesque Convenience

If you are looking for a vacation destination that is charming and rustic, consider booking one of the many Maine rentals. This small but robust state has a wealth of attractions to offer. For a short stay in Maine, consider one of the cozy Maine cottages. If you are planning to stay longer, other Maine lodging options may be better choices.

Maine Rentals Are Full of Amenities

The rugged coastline of Maine, dotted with picturesque lighthouses, will provide you with a vacation like no other. To truly make the most of your time here, it is important to make sure that you have selected the best Maine lodging. While you could certainly rent a hotel room, Maine rentals such as vacation homes and Maine cottages provide so many additional benefits. After spending a long day exploring the coastline, checking out the quaint shops and treating yourself to Maine lobster, it will be nice to be able to return back to a comfortable vacation rental. Most of the rental homes in the state provide amenities that you will not find in hotel rooms, such as full kitchens, spacious living areas, fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs.

Maine Cottages Offer So Much to Do nearby

During your time in Maine, you may wish to take one of the historical tours offered in many of the towns throughout the state. This is a great way to learn more about the local area. Another option to consider is getting in some time fishing or boating, both of which are quite popular throughout the state. Your Maine rentals will be conveniently located for you to enjoy all of these activities.

Maine Lodging in the Fall

If you plan your trip to Maine during the fall, there is simply nothing better than taking a scenic drive through the byways and enjoying the glorious fall foliage. After returning to one of the Maine cottages you have rented, build a roaring fire and snuggle under a cozy blanket. Bookings for Maine lodging can be easily made online, allowing you many cottages or larger vacation homes to choose from for your upcoming trip.
