  • September in Maine

"My wife and I spent the month of September, 2014 at The Barn House and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The area is quiet (you have to go 20 miles to find a T-Shirt, there are great groceries, restaurants and resources very close by. Lots of short or long day trips in the vicinity...car is a must. The owner Katie is great and so are all the neighbors that we met. Definitely on our "To Do Again" list."

  • A perfect spot for two

"A lovely apartment, cozy, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Just a short walk through the woods until you arrive upon your very own private piece of paradise on earth, the Rocky Maine Coast. It doesn’t get any better than to relax, watch the waves lap up on the rocks and the birds fly by. Lucy and John are gracious hosts that charge a reasonable fee to enjoy their property. What more could you ask for? Needless to say, we are looking forward to our next visit."

  • Spectacular location

"Good stuff first. We stayed here with my family as sort of a reunion. My Parents, my sister & spouse, my brother & spouse. The house only sleeps six and they are VERY firm about this. No squeezing people in on the couch. That being the case my husband and I stayed with relatives until my brother left (they were only with us part of the week) We moved over on Tuesday. The house is situated on a cliff and views of the ocean are stunning and the house is designed so that you are able to see the ocean from not only the living room(sliders that open onto a deck)but also the master bedroom. the sound of the waves crashing on the cliffs below is deafening. Spent mornings drinking coffee on the deck and If you are up early enough, you will be able to see Lobster boats pulling in traps right in front of you.At night with a glass of wine is even better. Coming home I can honestly say that I missed the sound of the waves very, very badly! We had the good fortune of spectacular weather (only one day of fog) and being able to view many sunrises and moon sets over the water, Gorgeous! I cannot stress enough how healing and magical it is. There is a wood burning fireplace (buy your own firewood) We took advantage of the fireplace on the foggy day and it was very relaxing to have a "stay in" day with a nice fire, it took the chill and the damp out and we enjoyed some old movies. One of the bedrooms has a small library with a nice selection of Books. I will recommend "Lighthouse Horrors" for some good old fashioned scary stories (Perfect reading for being in Maine on vacation with the sound of the waves in the background)The ocean is accessible by means of a steep path to the left of the house & there is a rope rigged up to assist you getting down to the cliffs, spent many hours just laying on the rocks and sunning & reading. Do not advise swimming here as the waves and the currents are too strong. Now the bad;The living room furniture needs updating. It is comfortable but worn. The dishwasher turns on at random, the dryer was not in good working order,TV is ancient &Flat screens are so cheap nowadays. No excuse not to update especially for over $2000.00 a week. The guest bedroom queen mattress needs replacement, old and probably one of the most uncomfortable mattresses my husband and I have ever slept & we traveled all over the world, (all of Europe) They need to update this mattress! Other then this id recommend this property."

  • Loved This Cottage!

"My family and I really enjoyed the cottage. My kids especially loved that the beach was within walking distance so they could go every day when it was low tide. I would definitely recommend this cottage to any family looking for a quiet, restful beach vacation. We were able to mark "Eating lobster in Maine" off my mom's bucket list! We enjoyed eating at the Black Harpoon, The Happy Clam, Harjula's icecream and the School House Bakery. We bought live lobster from Miller's and they were deee-licious! :) Jeanine was very nice and helpful and worked with us so we could bring my parents' two yorkies with us also."

Mid-Coast & Islands Travel Tips

Maine Rentals for Picturesque Convenience

If you are looking for a vacation destination that is charming and rustic, consider booking one of the many Maine rentals. This small but robust state has a wealth of attractions to offer. For a short stay in Maine, consider one of the cozy Maine cottages. If you are planning to stay longer, other Maine lodging options may be better choices.

Maine Rentals Are Full of Amenities

The rugged coastline of Maine, dotted with picturesque lighthouses, will provide you with a vacation like no other. To truly make the most of your time here, it is important to make sure that you have selected the best Maine lodging. While you could certainly rent a hotel room, Maine rentals such as vacation homes and Maine cottages provide so many additional benefits. After spending a long day exploring the coastline, checking out the quaint shops and treating yourself to Maine lobster, it will be nice to be able to return back to a comfortable vacation rental. Most of the rental homes in the state provide amenities that you will not find in hotel rooms, such as full kitchens, spacious living areas, fireplaces and Jacuzzi tubs.

Maine Cottages Offer So Much to Do nearby

During your time in Maine, you may wish to take one of the historical tours offered in many of the towns throughout the state. This is a great way to learn more about the local area. Another option to consider is getting in some time fishing or boating, both of which are quite popular throughout the state. Your Maine rentals will be conveniently located for you to enjoy all of these activities.

Maine Lodging in the Fall

If you plan your trip to Maine during the fall, there is simply nothing better than taking a scenic drive through the byways and enjoying the glorious fall foliage. After returning to one of the Maine cottages you have rented, build a roaring fire and snuggle under a cozy blanket. Bookings for Maine lodging can be easily made online, allowing you many cottages or larger vacation homes to choose from for your upcoming trip.
