"My boyfriend, his 12-year old son, my dog and myself were looking for a waterfront Maine cabin at an affordable price and Carol (the owner) reached out to me via email (I had posted an ad in "temporary housing wanted" on Craigslist, not thinking *anybody* would actually read it and/or respond). After seeing the photos and getting a quote, I booked it. Carol was very accommodating; our schedules did not allow for a weeklong stay and she allowed us a shorter visit. I was hoping this weekend would help bring my boyfriend's son and I closer, as we are in the process of becoming a family. This trip (and this place) did just that.
We spent the sunny days on the dock, enjoying the fresh air and watching the ducks and loons. My boyfriend's son floated in the tranquil water on the inner tube. A canoe and pedal boat were also provided (previous rain had unfortunately filled them with water and, due to BOTH our bad backs, we couldn't empty them. No big deal.) We took advantage of the serenity & solace of the location and the comfortable and well-equipped cabin. Although on the smaller side, three of us fit very comfortably and had plenty of room. More than enough towels, kitchen accessories, reading materials, games, etc. were available. There was a "guide" binder which had many recommendations of things to do and see in the area. We ended up eating (twice) at Calzolaio Pasta Co. in Wilton - absolutely delicious and a charming restaurant. Had a scrumptious breakfast in Farmington at Homestead Bakery Restaurant. Explored the nearby towns, shops, scenery, etc.
My dog also loved it here! Not much of a swimmer, he waded in the shallow end of the pond, lounged on the dock with us, played fetch and enjoyed the sounds & smells of nature. There was very little traffic on the road and, when there was, drivers were slow and respectful.
All in all, this was a relaxing, fun, comfortable weekend in a cozy cabin in a beautiful spot. Best of all, it gave the three of us a chance to get to know each other better and enjoy time together as the family we soon hope to be."
