  • Perfect Vacation

"Our family of four (parents plus two young daughters) just returned from this property a couple of weeks ago and we give it eight thumbs up! Actually twelve thumbs up as we had two visitors while we were up there. We couldn’t have had a more perfect vacation. The property came just as advertised. We’ve rented properties all over Lake Sebago and nearby lakes the last five years and before that lakes in NH and VT. This is definitely one of the top rental properties in terms of the physical aspects – sandy beach on a clear, fresh-water lake, child/toddler-friendly landscaping, a clean and well-equipped house (bedding and towels must be supplied by guests) large enough to accommodate our family and visiting friends and relatives. But what really makes this place special is the people (and dog!). The owners, George and Bobbi, live next door and they were the most attentive and generous “landlords” we’ve ever had the pleasure to deal with (from the moment we contacted them via this website to the time we got our deposit check back). Just as a small example, at one point my wife needed a sieve for cooking as our kitchen, which was otherwise well equipped, did not have one. She asked George if they had one to borrow. George came by next day with one. He never even mentioned it, but it was clearly bought new just for us. He could have just said he didn’t have one and that would have been the end of it, but he went out of his way to get it for us. We also very much enjoyed his grown up children and their children. Sharing the beach may be a put off for some, but the property and certainly the lake are large enough to accommodate all. In fact, our seven year old got along fabulously with one of the grandchildren. On this vacation we never heard the oft complaint from past years -- “Dad, there’s nothing to do!” (other than swimming, building sand castles, going on canoe rides, catching critters and fish, roasting marshmellows, etc., etc. – all of which we did). Having a friendly golden retriever also was a huge hit with our children. We will definitely return."

  • Our Happy Place

"We've rented on Thompson Lake for nearly a decade. This was our first summer in this house, and we feel like we've finally found our summer home. We look forward to returning for many years to come. We found the house was in pristine condition when we arrived. The owner's personal commitment to the home is evident in large and small ways, from the well built tasteful home, to the providing of great sheets, towels, beach towels and PFD's. The master-bedroom suite including bedroom, bathroom, two closets and direct access by way of a sliding door to the screened in porch is phenomenal. The upstairs jack and jill bedrooms and bathroom are spacious and comfortable. The kitchen/great room area is large and accommodating with every amenity a person may need down to the cozy fleece blanket to cover you while you nap on the couch. The kitchen and grill are terrific. We ate in more this vacation than we ever have before -- bringing in steamed clams and lobsters from the Naples Lobster Pound on Route 302 in nearby Naples, taking advantage of the grill, and even baking homemade blueberry and raspberry pies with just-picked-by-us berries from Goss Berry Farm in nearby Mechanic Falls. The home is well suited for a couple looking for a relaxing blissful week on Thompson Lake to get away from it all, and equally well suited for hosting a family looking for Maine-lake fun and adventure. Thompson Lake is a jewel, and the property's location is ideal for swimming, sailing, kayaking/canoeing, motor boating or just sitting on the dock watching the loons go by -- and we did it all! Go see Guy at Thompson Lake Marina to rent a speed boat for tubing and water skiing or to rent a pontoon boat for a more relaxing tour of the lake. Call Mike and Mo at Sebago Sailing to rent a Sunfish sailboat for your stay. Mike will bring the Sunfish to the property and there is a mooring for the sailboat right by the swim float. Use the property's kayaks and canoe. Or just float in the lake. The owners are a pleasure to deal with -- responsive, caring and considerate, and interested in you enjoying their home and having a great vacation. We look forward to returning in 2015, 2016, 2017 ..."

  • LOVED Maine and Kiwi Lodge

"My husband and I have always wanted to visit Maine and eat lobster. However, we live on a small farm in Illinois and prefer a country setting vs. coastal setting. I found Kiwi Lodge after much research. It was immaculate inside and out, best stocked cooking kitchen we have ever rented, comfy beds, nicely furnished, cozy! The owner had furnished us with a lot of information before we arrived about the area and there was also info when we arrived. The free wifi was great for researching too. We loved Farmington and got groceries and had our lobster steamed while we shopped. We really enjoyed fishing from canoe and taking the paddle boat out too. We grilled fresh tuna on the outdoor gas/charcoal grill and ended a couple of evenings with a campfire by the lake. It was so quiet and secluded, but we heard the loons, photographed the ducks and listened to fish jumping. We took day trips to Rangeley for scenery, Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park for some great history, South Portland for a day of searching and photographing lighthouses and even found The Porthole where Guy visited from Diners Drive Ins and Dives, and visited York and several other coastal towns. Just a great dream vacation! Only complaint...just wish it wasn't so far, because we would love to come back. We are 55, but I would recommend for any age as the house is equipped for a family too with games, inside and out, video consoles, tv, wifi and exploring nature."
