Recent Mountains & Lakes reviews

  • Hidden Gem!

"We stumbled upon this cottage looking to get away for a couple of nights over Labor Day weekend. The pictures looked great, reviews were positive, and most importantly we could bring our dog, so we figured we'd give it a whirl. We are so glad we did! The cottage was immaculate when we walked in and it felt like home. The lake is awesome, and about 10 steps out the back door. It is somehow even better than it looks in the pictures. There is a row boat, kayak and canoe to use, but we just liked sitting on Adirondack chairs at the dock. Our bulldog loved walking down to the dock and relaxing with us while watching people come up and down the lake. The cottage itself has everything you could possibly need, especially in the kitchen. Pots/pans, wine glasses, silverware, corkscrew/bottle opener, too many things to list. Center of town is about a 2 minute ride, and there is a huge grocery store and a DD right down the street. Even had time for a round of golf, there is a really nice course about a 5 minute ride away on the other side of the lake. The owners are very pleasant, informative, and easy to deal with. We are already looking forward to coming back next summer!"

  • A sweet little Hideaway

"Spent a wonderful week at Robert's Hideaway on Mooselook. What a beautiful spot! Terrific views, wonderful swimming, a compact but comfortable and well-appointed cabin that had the "camp" feel I was looking for. Highly recommended if you want peace and quiet and the simplicity that a camp in Maine affords. Take a morning and drive over to Quill Hill in Stafford for some stunning views of the region. Comfy beds, nice fridge and appliances, everything in good working order. My only wish was for more direct sunlight on the camp shoreline, but otherwise had a very enjoyable stay and highly recommend it. Heck, we were greeted with homemade cookies left by the caretaker. That's a warm welcome!"

  • Great place for families on a quiet pond. Serene setting with a nice sandy beach at water's edge.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Papoose Pond. The home was comfortable and well-stocked. We really had everything we needed; from comfy beds to a small sailing dinghy & canoe. Blueberry & raspberry picking along the road was so fun! We had a great time exploring the pond in the canoe, and the surrounding area on bicycles. Water was perfect for small kids, shallow water with a sandy area for playing. Owners were helpful and responsive to questions/problems. They called to check in the first afternoon we were in the house to make sure we were finding what we needed. We had a small plumbing problem while we were there and it was fixed within the day by their local caretakers. We happened to be in town while the 'Waterford World's Fair' was going on about 10 minutes away, the kids loved it! We had ten people in the house for two of the nights we stayed there, and it accommodated everyone very well. We'd definitely stay there again."
