  • Great vacation!

"Our family stayed here on Raymond Cape at Lake Sebago for a week in August. Let me say one week was not enough! The house is beautiful, and comes complete with all the comforts of home. The owners were super easy to deal with, responsive to any questions, and our security deposit was returned fast too. The home is in a very quiet, beautiful area, and comes complete with dock, deck, and beautiful private sandy beach. Our kids swam all week, and caught their first fish, a small mouth bass! As well they caught frogs, minnows and even 2 crayfish. The property sits on a little cove off the smaller side of Sebago so you are sheltered from noise or rough waters. As for the beach there's a gradual sandy drop off perfect for the little ones. My only regret is that I dropped the ball on a boat rental, by the time we got up there my desired boats were booked for the week. We visited Freeport 1 day, that was ok...but we were all happy to get back to the house. I recommend you stock up with food...and your beverage of choice!! And don't leave cause you wont want too! We are already planning and looking forward to next summer, can't wait to return!"

  • Amazing house on amazing island!

"Our 2 families spent one week in this house at the end of June. We had a great time! The house is very accommodating, not too small not too big, perfectly sized for our 2 families. We loved the high ceiling open space and the amazing view on the lake. The deck is also perfect. With 8 seats to watch the sunset, it's the cherry on the top of a day spent at one of the many nearby beaches. The island itself is also great with lots of possible activities (golf, tennis, etc.). With people saying hi to each other, going around in golf kart, it feels like being in a camping except everyone have houses on wooded land instead of tents! We highly recommend this house to anyone looking to have a relaxing and fun getaway!"

  • Relaxing lakefront home

"I recently had the pleasure of spending a week at this adorable house on the lake. I have a 5 year old son, so the convenience of having the beach just steps away was so great! The beach is private and very relaxing. We spend many days just playing on the beach and in the water enjoying every minute. At night we would have a fire in the firepit and roast marshmallows. For the times when we needed to spend a day away from the beach, there was so much to do just minutes away. We would shop, go to the movies, etc. The house was well stocked with cooking utensils, cleaning supplies, beach chairs, beach toys not to mention the 4 kayaks which we loved. Paula was very accommodating and made sure our every need was met. Even after we left, I received a package in the mail the following week from Paula containing my son's water shoes which we had mistakenly left behind. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a fun, relaxing lakeside getaway. Thumbs up all around!!!"

  • Family vacation

"We had a wonderful one week vacation in this log house. We consisted of my husband & myself, 4 young adult children and one infant grandchild. We swam to the float, fished, and used the 2 canoes. We enjoyed the screened in porch and eating our meals out there. The kitchen was well supplied with utensils, pots & pans, etc., but the interior of the cabinets was in total disarray. I felt compelled to organize them upon our arrival if I was going to cook meals for a whole week here. I have stayed in many other VRBO homes and I felt this house was not attended to as well compared to other homes I've rented. The house is set back from the lake in the woods and is in the shade most of the day. Several high hat lights in the cathedral ceiling were burnt out and due to the ceiling height, there was no way for us to replace them. The balance of the lighting in the house is inadequate and since the house is in a shaded location, it was rather dark. We needed to keep lights on most of the time during the day while we were in the house. More floor, table lamps, or track lighting would be a simple remedy. IT was also very dark over the sink and in the kitchen, especially at night. The waterfront dock has an eastern exposure and the sun passed overhead at about 2:00 in the afternoon, leaving the waterfront in the shade for the rest of the day. The master bed has a deep mattress on it, and if I was informed of this ahead of time, I would have brought deep cornered bottom sheets. Regular fitted bottom sheets do not stay on. The master bed was also missing a mattress cover and I was curious/suspicious whether the blankets which were piled in the closets had all been washed after the previous visitors. These two thoughts left me slightly uncomfortable. Regardless, the house was roomy and spacious and we just loved being in Maine."

Frye Island Travel Tips

Escape to Summer: Frye Island Vacation Rentals

Popular legend has it that Captain John Frye swam to the safety of the island now named after him while escaping from a tribe of Native Americans. The facts of the story may be a bit muddled by history, but the name has stuck and now, today, many people escape to Frye Island vacation rentals, leaving their daily lives behind in order to appreciate the beauty of nature and some rest and relaxation. Also, nowadays, people can take a ferry instead of swimming through Sebago Lake to get to Frye Island.

Recently, Sebago Lake lodging in general and Frye Island cottages in particular have become very popular among Maine vacationers. Despite the popularity, the island is only accessible from May to October. From November to April, ice can form on the lake, making it impassable by ferry. For this reason, Frye Island vacation rentals are only available in the late spring, summer, and early fall.

Bring the Whole Family, Even the Furry Ones

One of the best things about spending a vacation out in nature is being able to have your dog with you. Many families think of their dogs as actual members of the family, as much so as human members of the family. For this reason, taking man's best friend on vacation is a treat for both the dog and the whole family. Luckily, there are Sebago Lake lodging options that are pet-friendly. A number of Frye Island vacation rentals, including Frye Island cottages allow guests to bring their dogs.

Some Sebago Lake lodging options are even open to indoor pets such as cats, birds, and hamsters. This is great for families who will be spending many days or even weeks in Frye Island cottages or houses and don't want to have to pay for a pet sitter the whole time.
