  • Wonderful Experience in Everyway

"We really enjoyed staying at this cottage. The location was wonderful, away from town and at the quiet end of the lake. There is a sandy beach we walked to in addition to using the sandy beach in front of the cottage The sandy beach in front of the cottage was perfect for the younger ones. They could use the stairs and play in the shallow water. We could sit in the furnished lawn chairs while the children safely played. The dock was perfect for the boat we rented from Long Lake Marina. We rented a pontoon boat with tubing equipment. They delivered to the public boat launch. Everyone was very busy with tubing, kayaking and canoeing. Mornings were very peaceful. We ate breakfast on the deck overlooking the serene water. At night we listened to the loons. A bald eagle swooped down and caught a fish right in front of us. Warblers were singing in the area at the end of the lake, near enough to walk around this area. The sunset was beautiful. Inside we had all the amenities we needed. The internet worked great for all those who couldn't break away from their electronic devise. The kitchen was nicely furnished so we were able to prepare the limited meals we chose to serve. The fire pit was great for s'mores. The cottage was clean and everything was in working order. The only suggestion would be for a way to rent linens and towels instead of having to carry these items on airplanes. One day we went to Storyland in NH. Another outing was to Pie Tree Orchard for Maine maple syrup and fruit picking, but the rest of the time was spent on the lake. We did make a trip to the Gazebo for ice cream daily. Hiking and geocaching in the area were a nice change of pace for those who wanted to do something away from the water. The owner sent emails with all necessary information, making it easy for us to know what to do and expect. The nearby property manager was friendly and unobtrusive. Overall, this was a wonderful experience. We hope to return in the future."

  • What a special retreat!

"Our family had an amazing week at Merrill House. We found the house incredibly inviting and quite spacious for our group. We enjoyed cooking amazing meals in the old kitchen and savoring them in the Dining Hall, which seated all of us. Our evenings were spent in the Great Hall, with games, puzzles and dancing. The children had an amazing time in the swimming pond, particularly jumping in from the rope swing. We bought kites and spent a wonderful afternoon flying kites. The grounds allowed us to set up various games, such as a volleyball/badminton net and relay races. One of us is a painter who found numerous spots to set up and spend the afternoon painting. The drive to nearby parks for hikes were worth the trip, but we certainly enjoyed 'staying home' relaxing at the Merrill House's porch. It was an absolutely wonderful experience for all. Thank you!"

  • Very nice!

"Lovely, well appointed little camp. We lucked out weather wise for Labor Day week as we only had one gray, drizzly day. A 10'x10' Coleman canopy over the picnic table was handy as there is no outside shelter or screened porch so if it rains, you are either inside or out in the rain. Stone/cement pier and rocky shallows are not big boat friendly, but a canoe or small, beachable boat works fine. Nearly everyday was sunny but due to time of year, we only had a few hours of direct sunshine each day. I would definitely visit again! I would also bring a favorite sharp knife or two and my griddle for French toast, eggs, etc. Also, an axe or at least a hatchet to make tinder and kindling to compliment the terrific pile of firewood that is provided. Very nice, clean camp. I would certainly go back."

  • Quiet Retreat for the Whole Family

"Both the description and photos were spot on and the home was immaculate. The owner was very friendly and prompt with answers to any questions we had. Helpful information and brochures were also available. The lake was a short walk down the road where we found kayaks, canoe, and tubes and noodles to float on. In addition to swimming, fishing, and playing in the lake, we also took a drive to Scarborough Beach and Portland, both within a one hour drive. Trickey Pond is absolutely beautiful and a great place to spend some quality time with the family. Whether we chose to sit on the porch, lay in the hammock, or enjoy all of the things to do down at the lake, there was something for everyone."
