"We all had a great time during our week stay at the "Shire"...the boating was great, the view was fantastic on the shores of Rangeley Lake, and having access to the owners canoe and kayaks was anadded plus...a highly recommended stay in the Western mountain region of Maine!"

"We stayed here for a week in August with our entire family of 6, including a 1 year old. The cottage is in beautiful shape; it actually looks new. Each entryway is tiled, there is an outdoor shower and a nice lawn area. And as someone noted, it is about a mile from Route 302 but we never heard any traffic noise at all. It is right on the community beach (which was very quiet while we were there). We had a wonderful time using the 2 kayaks (there is also a rowboat and canoe), and the Basin area is off the main lake and less wavy, which is perfect for children. The beach is shallow and sandy.
It is hard to find a house with "adult bedrooms", and the 3rd bedroom here does have bunk beds but that worked alright for us. 3 bathrooms and a washer/dryer also were a bonus.
The only small complaint we had was that the AC units in the main and upper floors were very small. It was a hot week and we had to run them constantly in order to keep the rooms cool. We would have loved to turn them off during the day, open the windows, and then turn them back on in the evening before bed, but that would not have worked. The lower walk out basement room did not have AC (there was a fan), and started to smell a bit damp by the end of the week. Another window unit here would solve this issue easily. We had a couple of very small issues during the week that were promptly dealt with.
All in all, we loved the cottage, the neighborhood, and the lake. We would definitely consider returning."

"After 10 wonderful but very busy days with family in Quebec, we were very happy to change gear and enjoy the peace of this cottage. It was precisely like the photos indicated and perfect appointed. Farmington is about 10 minutes away and the local grocery store has sockeye salmon, lobsters, swordfish, etc... and we splurged !!! We passed most of our time either on the dock, enjoying the lake and tossing our 4 year old in the lake, or up on the wraparound porch chilling out in the hammocks or rocking chairs. The only things we missed, which could be easily fixed, were a life vest for a child (we bought one at Walmart) and BBQ tools. Definitely a place where we would return !"

Perfect spot for a family vacation away from it all!
"Our family of four (five, if you count the dog) loved our week at this cottage. The home is very clean, comfortable and well equipped, including a dishwasher, washing machine/dryer and a/c. The spacious living room with cable TV and DVD player was especially welcome on our one rainy day. Most days were spent down at the beach where the kids swam in the clear, warm water and the dog ran around with the neighbors dog for hours. My husband caught several good size bass while I caught up on my reading. We definitely want to go back to Peaceful Pines!"
