  • LOVED Maine and Kiwi Lodge

"My husband and I have always wanted to visit Maine and eat lobster. However, we live on a small farm in Illinois and prefer a country setting vs. coastal setting. I found Kiwi Lodge after much research. It was immaculate inside and out, best stocked cooking kitchen we have ever rented, comfy beds, nicely furnished, cozy! The owner had furnished us with a lot of information before we arrived about the area and there was also info when we arrived. The free wifi was great for researching too. We loved Farmington and got groceries and had our lobster steamed while we shopped. We really enjoyed fishing from canoe and taking the paddle boat out too. We grilled fresh tuna on the outdoor gas/charcoal grill and ended a couple of evenings with a campfire by the lake. It was so quiet and secluded, but we heard the loons, photographed the ducks and listened to fish jumping. We took day trips to Rangeley for scenery, Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park for some great history, South Portland for a day of searching and photographing lighthouses and even found The Porthole where Guy visited from Diners Drive Ins and Dives, and visited York and several other coastal towns. Just a great dream vacation! Only complaint...just wish it wasn't so far, because we would love to come back. We are 55, but I would recommend for any age as the house is equipped for a family too with games, inside and out, video consoles, tv, wifi and exploring nature."

  • Dad with 2 boys, 4 wheeling and bird hunting Oct 2014

"We have been going to the Eustis area for years and am so thankful that we found this home to stay in. In the past, we have stayed at the Spill Over Motel, which was great. But there is no comparison to having your own kitchen and much more room then a motel. The place is very charming and cozy, we really loved it. My 10 year set up his wild life camera and we have video of deer in the back yard which came out around 10:00 PM. We liked it that we were on a private dirt road, away from the main road, but there were a few neighbors in sight just in case you needed something, which we didn't. The lot is nice and private. I liked the location, since I didn't want to be way out in the woods. The place is spotless; the shower is roomy with plenty of hot water. There is a 'bear' theme throughout, which my kids loved. We fished for just a few hours in Flagstaff lake and used the pier at "Pines Market" which is an easy 5 miles north of the property. My sons caught some good sized togue type fish. You can find most anything you need there at that Pines Market. We did not 4 wheel from the property as we were not familiar with trails from that location; instead we headed to the Jim Pond area, which we knew better. If I were to ski Sugarloaf, I would definitely stay here, as it is, as reported, 6.8 miles from the entrance, which translates into just 6-7 minutes as the road is very good. We saw deer at the end of the road during the early AM hours. We were provided with a crock pot & coffee maker and assorted nice dishes and other cook ware as well as a gas grill, which worked great. There is a restaurant right at the entrance to the camp's road "Choplin House"?, but we did not get to try it. It looked like there was a nice pub in there too. It would be walking distance if the weather was favorable, maybe it is 3/10ths of a mile away. For good pizza and sandwiches head north for about a mile and look for the gas station on the left that looks like they would sell other things besides gas. The camp has wood wide pine floors, tongue and grove pine walls and ceilings and looks really good. During warmer weather there is a cute porch with a little TV. I would highly recommend staying here except if you want to stay the dates I want to go next October, and then please stay at the Spill Over :-). You won’t know what you are missing so we will both be happy. I have rented about 6- 8 times through VRBO and have always had great experiences, like w/ this one."

  • Bryant Pond House

"We really enjoyed our long weekend at this house in Bryant Pond. The house is just on lake Christopher( I brleive that is it's name). It is a quiet time of year but did not se like a busy , crowded lake at all. The house itself is lively, with comfortable rooms of varying architectural dates. The views from two if the bedrooms are toward the lake which was lovely with the mist in their bing. Y husband woke to say he wished he had brought the pruning pole saw as the view us becoming obscured by large branches!! The kitchen us well stocked with necessary equipment fir all sorts if cooking or baking which my daughter and I especially liked. We would definitely consider a longer stay in the future."

  • Great location, lovely home

"The house is located within walking distance to town and the local beach and boat launch. The sunset views were spectacular and the dock area is open and really user friendly. I loved that the home felt like a home and not a rental. It had plenty of plates/pans/utensils, etc. and the living area was cozy and open. The only reason I give this house 4 stars is the basement area with the bunk beds, pool table, and 3rd bath is only partially finished and it felt that way so we didn't use it except for laundry. That being said, we had a fantastic time and plan on returning next summer."
