Comfortable home close to all kinds of attractions
"This home has both privacy ( on acres of woods) and is close to loads of activities. Freeport is a 15 minute ride with shops and restaurants. There are two food stores in freeport, as well as a farm stand I found with great food from local farms. State parks are in Freeport such as Wolf Neck State Park that have trails on the coast where we have seen osprey nests and loads of islands. Trips can be signed up for on the LLBean website that take off at the state park. They have everything from kayaking to fly fishing.
Brunswick is about 25 minutes drive but could be an all day event. In the summer the Maine Music Theater has plays which can be booked online ahead or possibly purchased at the door. The weekend I was there the main street in Brunswick was closed for an arts and crafts festival. Both Freeport and Brunswick have music in the park once a week.
Portland has so much to offer, but since my daughter lives in Portland I decided to skip it this year and go out farther north up to Pemiquid light house and a salt water cove that Rachel Carson did studies in. The house offered stars, and in August there were plenty of shooting stars to see. All our meals were eaten outside on the large deck using the grill. I am from N.J., and I thought we had many restaurants. Just so many ethnic places around if you take into account what Portland has to offer. One night we took off for a church meal that is legendary. It was an absolutely beautiful ride down through Orrs Island onto Bailey Island. One Saturday a month, at a small church they have a reasonable meal that is home cooked. This time it was lobster stew. I met a man there who is the 8th generation to live in his island home. I absolutely cannot find such treasures in my home state. Looking forward to coming back to this home because it is secluded yet removed from tourists and traffic. I call it a "home" rather than a house because you get the sense of warmth and history from it. For example, this is the first place I have rented the has so many plants, and items that truly belong to the owner. Unless I move up here myself…I will be back next year!"

"What's better than staying at a house on the Maine coast in July? Maybe owning the house. But if that's not possible, rent this one. The house is very comfortable and is surrounded by water. Be advised, however, that the tides are fairly drastic, leaving exposed mud on the Eastern side of the house. Swimming is very doable during high tide, but getting into the water at low tide is impossible on the Eastern side and difficult at best on the Western side.
The owners were very accommodating, but perhaps a little too relaxed about making sure there was enough propane in the tank, which ran out midway through dinner one night. C'mon guys, get a spare tank! Also, the electric range is a bit finicky, with burners sometimes shutting down for no apparent reason. And if you want to make pancakes for breakfast, be sure and bring your own pan or griddle.
That being said, I'd stay there again (if the owners will let me after this review). It's all about location, and this property has it."

"A group of us spent a long weekend here and absolutely fell in love with the place!
The home is luxurious and grand but furnished to feel welcoming and cozy. Even with its custom finishes and modern updates, it has a unique, New England charm that matches the natural beautify of its surroundings. The property has it all -- a large outdoor space for dining, a lawn with garden flowers, a beach side picnic table shaded by surrounding trees, and steps down to a private stretch of beach. My favorite spot is the second floor balcony which has a stunning view of the water and is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or curl up with a book.
Frank is also a great host who was accommodating both before and during our stay. He came by to give us a tour of the house and answer any questions and didn't hesitate to come back again to change out a few light bulbs and install screens for the windows upon request. We can't thank him enough for the wonderful stay and look forward to staying again!"

"We were 2 families of 4 - that stayed here, so we had 4 adults and 4 children in age from 3-8 and this house was perfect! It's a beautiful home, very new and very well kept and it's in a beautiful location. The kids all loved playing down on the dock and around in the yard. The home was very spacious for the eight of us and we never felt cramped. There was nothing more we needed from the home, the owners have thought of everything! We would definitely like to return and you will not be disappointed if you rent this home!"
