"My family and I recently visited this gorgeous home for a long weekend in September for a family wedding and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and the private location lends itself to a peaceful retreat and getaway. The property has its own beach that is gorgeous and is great for wading and exploring at low tide. This was our first experience on Homeaway and the experience was wonderful. The homeowner was a delight to work with and I look forward to rebooking this home for another visit very soon."

  • Great family vacation at the perfect cottage on Peaks!

"My family and I just spent the most amazing vacation on Peaks and this cottage was terrific! The owners Jean and John were so helpful and friendly, answering all our questions before and during our stay at their charming, comfortable cottage. It is perfectly and conveniently located about a ten minute walk from the grocery store, post office, ferry, stores and restaurants on Peaks. It's only about a two minute walk to the beach too. The cottage was very clean and completely equipped with everything our family needed during our stay, including a barbecue that we used many times. The rooms are all nicely decorated with many family photos and mementos. There's also a large screened in porch on the back of the house where we enjoyed many meals. It's also the perfect spot in the house to watch the lovely sunsets each night over Casco Bay. The lilac bush at the front of the cottage was in full bloom so we cut fresh flowers and put them all over the house so we could enjoy that lovely scent all week. There are also games, puzzles and playing cards there which we used all week. This cottage certainly was full of "sunshine and laughter" the entire week we were there and we won't stay anywhere else when we return to Peaks! Thanks Jean and John!!"

  • Very happy

"Thank you for having us! We really enjoyed our stay at 'Turtles Nest'. We loved sitting on the 2nd floor porch and admiring the water view, and we were also happy to find a lovely garden in the backyard. Also, we loved that this house actually had working wifi & cable! We've stayed on Peaks before and found that other houses are less connected than this one. It was especially appreciated because we had one day of rain and were glad to be able to relax and watch TV! The house is ~12 min walk from the ferry and just a few minutes to the island general store, so it's feasible without a car."

  • Quiet getaway for two

"If you're looking for the real Maine, the Maine that's not the T-shirt-and-trickets tourist atmosphere of Camden, Boothbay, and Bar Harbor, the Maine of friendly people, fresh-off-the-boat seafood, bracing hikes, gorgeous scenery, quiet waterfront mornings and evenings, go to Harpswell. And if you are two, stay in this cozy cottage on Quahog Cove off Harpswell Island Road. Within driving distance to all the ordinary sites -- we had lattes in Camden, bought art in Brunswick, visited the Wyeth collection in Rockland, toured Boothbay's old neighborhoods -- "Cozy" is perfect for an intimate week for two. The cottage is well appointed: the bed is comfortable, the little porch is perfect for a 5:00 wine (or two), the bathroom is more than we expected for so small a cottage, the dock is inviting, and sunrise over the cove was worth the price in itself. Even in mid-October, the cottage was toasty and comfy. Additional and unexpected: a French press coffee maker, a huge closet, a huge shower, a fully furnished kitchen, and lobstermen who work their traps practically in your front yard every morning. And John and Karen had fresh flowers awaiting us. The cottage was spotless and well maintained. After two days, it felt like home. A delightful week away."
