  • Perfect visit back home

"We rented the Orr's Cottage as our vacation home/honeymoon home and it was fantastic. The home is tucked away and has the quiet and privacy of being in a wooded area, but is just steps to the cove (and you can even see the ocean a bit from the window). Being a native Mainer (that now lives in Colorado), it was so nice to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of Maine. The house is very roomy and comfortable. Everyone I spoke to agreed that we got a great deal on our stay. Would definitely rent this property again for our next vacation!"

  • The overwhelming beauty of Orr's Island is captured here!

"Our family cannot thank Peter enough for providing us the perfect setting for an adult family vacation--the first time all of our kids were together in Maine (including spouses and significant others) since 1993. Having traveled from MO, PA and CA, it was worth every mile of travel to this incredible destination. Our anticipation built as we took the winding gravel road down to the end of the Lane, where we found our destination, exactly as described and pictured. Actually, pictures cannot capture the inside character, water views, beautiful gardens/lawn area and the soothing sounds of the ocean. Inside are artifacts, pictures, shelves of books and albums from three generation of family and furniture suited to the period and setting of the home--all of this adds to the magical nature of the location. The views from the living and dining rooms, and bedrooms that face the water are breathtaking. The kitchen, larder, and pantry were well equipped including the large pots that made our lobster cooking easy--especially when we had to fetch the sea water for "the only correct method" by which to boil the lobsters :) The substantial "lobster plates" made serving and eating them a real treat. The griddle accessory for the gas stove was perfect for toasting lobster rolls the next day along with enjoying toasted Anadama bread for breakfast Coffee every morning on the porch was the routine for most all. (The sun rises to the "left" of and moves parallel to the front porch) Whether watching the cormorants, gulls, and songbirds, the lobstermen pulling traps within 100 yards of the shore, or just watching the tides move were relaxing routines that started every day off right. The rocky coast and little rock/sand beach were perfect. We launched our kayaks from the beach (rented two others from H2Outfitters by the Cribstone Bridge--of course there is a single person touring kayak on the property that was used every day) and scoured the sand and rocks for sea glass--we found a lot! Go to Erica's in Harpswell for takeout--recommended by a buddy from Yarmouth who knows how and where to eat, well worth the trip. We also had casual family photos taken by a local Harpswell photographer and were thrilled with how he captured the essence of our family and the beauty of the coast!"

  • Charming, Well-Located, Comfy

"My wife, our pets Eli and India and I stayed at the Sheacliff apartment on Orr's Island during the end of July, beginning of August, 2014. What a delightful, clean, beautifully appointed, comfy and well situated accommodation this is. It's just a few minutes walk to the picturesque Lowell's Cove, where we walked almost every morning, and a point of departure for touring the Maine coast along Orr's and Bailey islands, Harpswell and further afield to Freeport, Bath, Brunswisck and Damariscotta. Our hosts Shirley, Kevin and Mark made us feel at home. Do sound out Mark for his recommendations on where to eat locally on Orr's and Bailey islands, as well as farther afield. All of his recommendations were spot on for value, taste, and service. Two recommendations with particularly gorgeous views are the Dolphin Marina and Restaurant and Estes Lobster House with its lobster specials. And for some of the most inventive and delicious tavern fare we've ever had, drive over to Damariscotta and King Eider's Pub. We highly recommend Sheacliff and would happily pay a return visit whenever we stay on the mid Maine coast."

  • Spacious and gracious home to enjoy when away from your own

"The photos and internet do not do justice to this beautiful home. It is spacious, well appointed, and has spectacular views of the beach including gorgeous sunsets. The home is in a peaceful and serene setting while being available to many opportunities to explore and visit the area. We found this home very comfortable for two couples sharing space and having separate areas as well. The home was very clean and well maintained. We ate at Morses Cribstone Grill and Giant Stair each having delicious food. We explored the area: hiked to Giant Stairs, went to Bath and Phippsburg as well as to the far end of Bailey Island to see the lobsterman statue. At Boothbay and Alna we rode the narrow gauge trains and visited the museums and other buildings. One highlight was our trip to Pemaquid Point and then returning and stopping at Wiscasset at Red's Eats for the famous lobster roll. You will run out of time before you run out of things to do. No matter what you do, you get to come back to a very restful and beautiful home to relax and enjoy."

Orrs Island Travel Tips

Orrs Island Vacation Rentals Make You Feel Like a Local

There is no better way to learn about a place than living there like a local. When you stay in a hotel room, you feel like a tourist, and you are unable to experience the culture of an area to its fullest. Orrs Island is a unique place, and by staying in a vacation rental, you will get a better feel for the culture, atmosphere, and lifestyle of the people who live there. Give your family the ultimate immersive experience by renting one of the Orrs Island vacation rentals.

Orrs Island Is a Perfect Place to Bring a Pet

Since most hotels do not allow animals unless they are service animals, you should find Orrs Island lodging that is pet friendly. There are many vacation rentals that can accommodate your dog and the rest of your motley crew. Wouldn't it be fun to watch your dog explore the sights and smells of the beaches? Don't you think your pet deserves a vacation too? You can go on hikes, spend time together at your vacation rental, or swim in the water.

Casco Bay Lodging around Orrs Island

You do not even have to stay on Orrs Island to experience the historical area. There are Casco Bay cottages available on many of the surrounding Islands and the main land of Maine. You can visit Orrs Island one day to experience the flavor of that island, and then spend the rest of your vacation touring other Casco Bay islands and attractions in the area.

Orrs Island Vacation Rentals Are Affordable

The rates for Orrs Island vacation rentals are often right in line with hotel rates. The difference is that in an Orrs Island vacation rental, there are unique amenities that not only help your family save money, but make them more comfortable than is possible in a hotel. Check out the great rates at VRBO.com.
