  • Three Family Vacation

"We had a family reunion with 6 adults and 3 young kids (4, 3, 1). The house was great. Very roomy in the living and dining areas. The whole back of the house is glassed in with great views of the bay. Kitchen was really nice and well laid out. Master bedroom and bath downstairs and 4 bedrooms upstairs. One bedroom has 2 sets of bunk beds, set up well for kids. Grounds were beautiful with easy walk to the stairs that went down to the water. Just a few minutes drive to town and shopping, closer than we thought. Great hiking in the parks nearby and lots of Geocaching! Owners very easy to work with. Definitely considering a return visit."

  • This is the place to stay !!!

"This is the place to stay!! South Portland and the Willard Beach neighborhood in particular is quite a unique area with Scoops Ice Cream, a bagel shop, and several locally owned very good restaurants within walking distance (or very short driving distance). This cottage is clean and is beautifully situated on the property of the owner allowing views of the bay and Willard Beach and the islands of Casco Bay. I am so happy I found this cottage. I had a fabulous week there, exploring all up and down the Maine coast (from Kennebunkport to Camden), island hopping off the coast of Portland, discovering lighthouses along the way, visiting interesting towns, and enjoying scenic drives (especially Routes 1 and 88 going north from Portland to Camden, then south through Cape Elizabeth to Old Orchard Beach and Kennebunkport) ~ stay off the toll highway...take the scenic routes -- lots to do and see in the whole area and this beach cottage at Willard Beach is great to have as a home port during your stay. The owner provides you with a list of interesting things to do and good places to eat. There is plenty to see and do in a week's time and still have time to kick back and relax, walking on the beach, or just enjoying watching the boats in the bay from the front porch of the cottage. The cottage is very convenient to Portland without having to be right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Portland all the time (Portland is very touristy and can get pretty crowded with traffic along the wharf, but it doesn't take long to figure out how to get around and where to park when there are things you want to do there - like riding the Casco Bay Ferry to do some sight seeing and island hopping or taking a Windjammer sailing cruise). Be sure you have your camera ... there are lots of photo opportunities waiting to be taken !!"

  • Wonderful house in the best location!

"If you're debating on what house to rent in Maine...stop, this is it. We were 6 adults on vacation from NYC and this fit our needs perfectly. The house is huge! and has everything you could hope for. The porches alone are worth the stay, but you can also grab the deck chairs and sit by the ocean which is right there!!! We loved the back patio with the big picnic table with a grill. I have nothing but good things to say about this place and Jane who was lovely to work with and answered all my questions. Bailey island is so cute and quaint and if you do stay here I recommend all things baked from the Salt Cod Cafe which is just 3 min down the road. A blueberry muffin with butter and a cup of coffee sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean is euphoric."

  • The overwhelming beauty of Orr's Island is captured here!

"Our family cannot thank Peter enough for providing us the perfect setting for an adult family vacation--the first time all of our kids were together in Maine (including spouses and significant others) since 1993. Having traveled from MO, PA and CA, it was worth every mile of travel to this incredible destination. Our anticipation built as we took the winding gravel road down to the end of the Lane, where we found our destination, exactly as described and pictured. Actually, pictures cannot capture the inside character, water views, beautiful gardens/lawn area and the soothing sounds of the ocean. Inside are artifacts, pictures, shelves of books and albums from three generation of family and furniture suited to the period and setting of the home--all of this adds to the magical nature of the location. The views from the living and dining rooms, and bedrooms that face the water are breathtaking. The kitchen, larder, and pantry were well equipped including the large pots that made our lobster cooking easy--especially when we had to fetch the sea water for "the only correct method" by which to boil the lobsters :) The substantial "lobster plates" made serving and eating them a real treat. The griddle accessory for the gas stove was perfect for toasting lobster rolls the next day along with enjoying toasted Anadama bread for breakfast Coffee every morning on the porch was the routine for most all. (The sun rises to the "left" of and moves parallel to the front porch) Whether watching the cormorants, gulls, and songbirds, the lobstermen pulling traps within 100 yards of the shore, or just watching the tides move were relaxing routines that started every day off right. The rocky coast and little rock/sand beach were perfect. We launched our kayaks from the beach (rented two others from H2Outfitters by the Cribstone Bridge--of course there is a single person touring kayak on the property that was used every day) and scoured the sand and rocks for sea glass--we found a lot! Go to Erica's in Harpswell for takeout--recommended by a buddy from Yarmouth who knows how and where to eat, well worth the trip. We also had casual family photos taken by a local Harpswell photographer and were thrilled with how he captured the essence of our family and the beauty of the coast!"
