  • Fantastic getaway

"We just finished our second year in a row renting this cottage, and we have absolutely loved it both times. It's great for kids, with lots of bunk beds, and two couples, with very romantic bedrooms overlooking the water. It is amazing having the beach right below, but even better is the deck perched high above it. Amazing sunsets. Wish we had never left. The owners are also fantastic to deal with."

  • Maine: The way we thought it should be

"Lofty, overlooking Quahog Bay (Harpswell, Maine) was a new experience that we were looking forward. We were not disappointed . . . how could you be. Lofty’s setting is authentic, coastal Maine -- tall trees, slowly rising and falling tidal waters 30 feet below, the distant sound of an early morning work boat chugging up the bay, incredible sunrises rises that made us rise early to prepare for the sun’s next performance, and an occasional loon calling from the far shoreline. The cottage was perfectly designed to take full advantage of an unspoiled scene provided by nature. Large windows in the eat-in kitchen and living room area with an adjoining expansive deck invite keeping track of outdoor activities – boats and birds and slowly moving ripples on the often placid water. Another smaller, more private deck opens off of the master bedroom. Lofty’s convenient location is about a 10 minute drive from Cooks Corner’s shopping, gas, restaurants, and highway connectivity to Brunswick, Bath, Freeport, Rockland, and beyond. Do you want to get out into nature? Great sites are a short drive away along with cultural destinations, such as the Maine Maritime Museum and museum and gallery on the Bowdoin College campus. Eateries, if you don’t feel like cooking in Lofty’s well equipped kitchen, are wide-ranging in their offerings and price in Bath and Brunswick and only 15-20 minutes away. For a real treat there’s Cook’s on Bailey’s Island. A bright, clean, comfortable, tastefully furnished home with responsive owners who obviously want guests to make the most of their time at Lofty and in Maine. Thanks John and Karen. We hope to return."

"this was our first time in Maine and it was a wonderful vacation only to short. This cottage was just as listed. Our family rented the cottage next door and it made a great family vacation. The outdoor shower was super! Our weather was perfect. Our only complaint was previous renters with pets and the pet hair left behind, but I m sure that now the owners are aware that will be taken care of. This was our first time to buy and eat a whole lobster, unbelievable!! We purchased it at Ericas, the best! And we also had steaks fresh cut from the local butcher on 123, and his fresh ground beef was the best for burgers. We had a long journey from Ontario Ca. but was worth the drive. We hope to return in the future and our family too. Thanks to Rob and Bridget for sharing their cottages."

"Nice place, great location on the east end of the island. Owner was very helpful and responsive with any questions we had. If our plans take us back to Long Island we will definitely consider this house again."

Portland & Casco Bay Travel Tips

Portland Vacation Rentals for a Year-Round Tourist Destination

As a year-round tourist location, it’s hard to beat Portland and Casco Bay in Maine. Portland vacation rentals are ideally placed for this culturally and historically rich area. Day and night, the bustling Portland harbor is buzzing with activity, with tourist boats coming and going, fishermen at work and restaurants filled with people. Choose a Casco Bay lodging choice near the harbor to be in the middle of the action. You will find a Maine lodging choice to suit any family or group of friends looking for a vacation in this scenic area.

Portland Vacation Rentals in the Largest of Maine’s Cities

Portland is the largest of Maine’s cities and it is the hub of its renowned art community. Thus, Portland vacation rentals are in one of the most sought-after locations in the region. Dating from the 1800s, the Old Port is now a high-class shopping area with a wide variety of restaurants around your Casco Bay lodging choice. The city takes its heritage seriously and buildings around your Maine lodging choice are maintained to an exceptionally high standard.

Casco Bay Lodging for Ferries and Hot Air Balloons

A benefit to Portland vacation rentals is their proximity to the ferries to Nova Scotia. It’s worth jumping a ferry to head off to Casco Bay’s Calendar Islands for a great day out. The adventurous traveler in a Casco Bay lodging choice might prefer to undertake a slightly more unusual mode of travel and opt for a hot air balloon trip as a novel way to see the region. Staying in Maine lodging, you will wonder how many times you will have to return before you’ve seen it all!

Maine Lodging For Culture for Kids

For the culturally minded, there are so many museums and so much history here that you will struggle to fit it all in within just one vacation. Portland vacation rentals cater for the culturally minded children too with their own museum. From Casco Bay lodging you will find an amazing variety of walks and excursions to be undertaken. While staying in a Maine lodging, there is also the chance to see the Portland Pirates play hockey or the Sea Dogs if baseball is your game.
