  • Charming is an Understatment

"I have been going to Higgins Beach for years(20+) and because our previous cottage sold we were forced to find a new place. Well if you know Higgins Beach at all you know this can be a challenge. My husband found this cottage through VRBO and we couldnt have been happier. It is so beautiful. I loved the fact that even though it looks like a photo shoot from Pottery Barn you still had this overwhelming welcoming feel. The open floor plan allowed all of us to be together but not crowded. What also was great if how much was supplied. We brought with us all of our beach toys (boccee, ladder ball, frisbee) but we didnt need to because the garage was full of every beach game you could imagine. Again the property was beautiful and very well maintained and when I had a question the owner got back to me within the hour. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. Nearby attractions also make this a very desirable place, every year my entire family goes to a Sea Dogs baseball game (13 of us) and we always find our way to Dimillos Restaurant in Portland. Can't wait for next year."

  • Wonderful vacation cottage

"Very cozy, perfect for a couple, the views are amazing. This location is fantastic. We enjoyed Estes Lobster house, Erickas lobster trailer, Portland sightseeing,Freeport shopping, Brunswick for its cuteness. Mostly we just hung out in Adirondack chairs by the fire pit. We really enjoyed it and want to come back. Rob was very responsive and helpful. The pet area was a great addition!!!"

  • Beyond words!

"I wanted to take a moment and tell you how wonderful our stay was at The Gills. We are Mainer's and can experience the coast anytime, we chose the Gills because of it's wonderful setting and unique atmosphere. Chris, my partner and love of my life and I are old souls who find great comfort in the ocean. We had planned our getaway for nearly a year. Sadly, in July, Chris lost both his mothers in 5 days. During this awful time for us we just counted the days until we could arrive at the cottage and decompress from all the stress of life. You have created a beautiful retreat that captures a time when life was slower and the focus was on what was truly important, those we love. Our morning coffee was enjoyed sitting on the swing your Dad made on the porch overlooking the ocean. We spent our days watching the boats go by from the porch or on the rocks, and our evenings with a fire sometimes playing cards or reading from your library. It was so wonderful to fall asleep listening to the waves and wake to the boats going by. The cottage was just perfect for us and helped heal our souls. I am counting the days until our next trip to the Gills."

  • A wonderful week on Winding Way

"My three generation family just returned from a wonderful week on Peaks Island at this beautiful, comfortable home. It's a private, quiet space that has room for some to sit and read quietly on the deck while bird watching and for some to kick a soccer ball around on the open grounds. We biked and walked everywhere from the beach to the tennis courts. Jean and Ralph are wonderful hosts who are helpful when needed. My grandchildren call it our summer stay house, and we can't wait to return."

Portland & Casco Bay Travel Tips

Portland Vacation Rentals for a Year-Round Tourist Destination

As a year-round tourist location, it’s hard to beat Portland and Casco Bay in Maine. Portland vacation rentals are ideally placed for this culturally and historically rich area. Day and night, the bustling Portland harbor is buzzing with activity, with tourist boats coming and going, fishermen at work and restaurants filled with people. Choose a Casco Bay lodging choice near the harbor to be in the middle of the action. You will find a Maine lodging choice to suit any family or group of friends looking for a vacation in this scenic area.

Portland Vacation Rentals in the Largest of Maine’s Cities

Portland is the largest of Maine’s cities and it is the hub of its renowned art community. Thus, Portland vacation rentals are in one of the most sought-after locations in the region. Dating from the 1800s, the Old Port is now a high-class shopping area with a wide variety of restaurants around your Casco Bay lodging choice. The city takes its heritage seriously and buildings around your Maine lodging choice are maintained to an exceptionally high standard.

Casco Bay Lodging for Ferries and Hot Air Balloons

A benefit to Portland vacation rentals is their proximity to the ferries to Nova Scotia. It’s worth jumping a ferry to head off to Casco Bay’s Calendar Islands for a great day out. The adventurous traveler in a Casco Bay lodging choice might prefer to undertake a slightly more unusual mode of travel and opt for a hot air balloon trip as a novel way to see the region. Staying in Maine lodging, you will wonder how many times you will have to return before you’ve seen it all!

Maine Lodging For Culture for Kids

For the culturally minded, there are so many museums and so much history here that you will struggle to fit it all in within just one vacation. Portland vacation rentals cater for the culturally minded children too with their own museum. From Casco Bay lodging you will find an amazing variety of walks and excursions to be undertaken. While staying in a Maine lodging, there is also the chance to see the Portland Pirates play hockey or the Sea Dogs if baseball is your game.
