"My husband and I stayed at Chesabelle for 4 shoulder-season days/nights. We were looking for something modern, clean, out of the way, with a view. Chesabelle exceeded our expectations!
I love to cook, even on vacation, and appreciated the very-well appointed kitchen. (Remember to stop at near-by Buzzy's Country Store on your way in, and pick up a few bags of ice. I'm also glad I brought some spare ice cube trays, to keep the cocktails and coolers happy.) All the appliances worked well. The bathrooms were also well stocked, with toiletries, and plus towel sets. I tried the big soaking tub, but the curse of tall girls made that a one-time experience. The lengthy window seat made a great lounge-read-nap spot. Wifi was speedy, furniture comfy.
I loved being able to walk/bike over to the beach across the street, and took out a kayak everytime the tides and chop allowed. I sat on the beach a few afternoons, but the big bitey flies worked themselves into a rage as soon as the temperature got up to about 85. We did have bug spray, expecting mosquitoes, but the comfy screened porch made that mostly unnecessary.
A few treats from Mother nature - one evening a big frog was plastered onto the kitchen window, and we saw quite a few Eastern Box Turtles ambling down the road. Both sunrise and sunset, looking eastward, were a show of colors twice every single day. Who needs to look west when the sky is pink, orange, and lavender, and the water silvery-gold with bands of bright turquoise! Stars - how could I not mention the stars? I woke up about 3am each morning (for the reason all people of a certain age do) and was happy to stay awake star-gazing. I haven't seen stars like that since I was in Yellowstone; the plentiful chairs on the front deck were easily toted out to the front courtyard for a view out from under the tree canopy.
I live in a high-density, noisy, high-traffic suburb just outside of DC, and the stunning quiet of the remote Scotland area was a joy. I visited Point Lookout State Park early one morning, the Confederate Memorial Park on the way out, and we had lunch out on our last day at Courtney's, about 15 minutes away, on the Potomac. (see separate review.) Other than that, we just didn't want to leave "our" gorgeous waterfront retreat. Will certainly return in the future!"
