"Heavenly if you like birds, fresh air, nature, trees and woods. The sun rises above the river over this peaceful property. The quietness and solitude are palpable and restful. Set back from the riverfront is a large beautiful yard, many tall pine trees and a big well crafted wooden house. In wintertime, it was an oasis of tranquility. The house is so inviting and has everything you could need for weeks or months at a time. The library shelves are full of fascinating books on all kinds of subjects: art, biographies, business, cape cod, children's books, foreign languages, history, nature, philosophy, reference books, sciences. There is a closet full of family games and puzzles. We watched and listened to a never ending parade of winter land and sea birds flying or floating by: bluejays, cardinals, chickadees, crows, finches, hawks, osprey, sparrows, woodpeckers, and bufflehead ducks, Canadian geese, cormorants, mallard ducks, seagulls and swans. Monomoscoy Island is a protected wildlife preserve, and well off the beaten tourists pathways. The house was clean, dry, nondrafty, beautifully furnished, so comfortable and well kept throughout. The big kitchen is full of dishes, glasses, mugs, pans, pots and utensils. The beds were super comforting and always a good nights sleep. There is an abundance of fresh linens. Large homes are nearby, but the yard and surrounding area is private, tree-filled and woodsy. In winter it gets dark early (you can really see the constellations!) but there is good lighting inside and outside where needed. Pathways to the house are clearly marked and lighted. Well maintained wood chip strewn driveway, with plenty of parking off the short side road. Mashpee is a lovely town of Wampanoag Indian origins. Many native descendants still live in the older parts of town, and sponsor a huge powwow of costumed dancing, drumming, and a musical celebration of their Indian culture during the summertime. We loved being here in the winter, with the cold outside it never felt anything but cozy, protected and warm inside the house. The resident hosts, who live on one side of this spacious two-story duplex, were so kind, helpful, thoughtful and never endingly patient, and made sure if there were anything we needed that they were only a phone call or text away, or a knock on their door (entrance way and foyer is shared). They will probably offer you some home cooking, and it was great! Truly a serene, special, spiritual place. And it snowed too!"
