  • PERFECT Family Retreat

"We are a family with 3 young kids (ages 9, 6 and 4) and have, in the past several years, rented beach houses in Hawaii and San Diego, so this says A LOT: This vacation was our favorite!!! We loved visiting the small towns at the Cape, like Mashpee and Hyannis, but mostly, we are certain the vacation was extra special because of the property where we called "home" for 7 days. First, it is a house that is well-designed and furnished (not prints hung on walls and cheap furniture like some rental properties, but original artwork, high-end appliances, and custom furniture), so it felt comfortable as soon as we stepped foot inside. The grounds outside the house were full of details that seemed existent only in movie sets -- such as an extensive herb garden, flower garden, large hammock and giant wrap-around deck with plenty of comfortable seating and a top-of-the-line grill. My kids found hours of enjoyment on the super long tree swing and had a great time collecting shells on the beach. One day, they even made a fairy house. The fact that my "city kids" never missed electronics, like their iPads, and was never bored at the house speaks volumes... even when it rained for 2 days! One of my best memories during our week stay was when it rained. When the rain was light, I went outside to pick fresh herbs from the garden and was cooking in the kitchen while my husband played Monopoly in the livingroom with the kids. Because there was a large deck, we were able to leave the windows and doors open, so we could enjoy the sounds of the rain. All I heard was music, the rhythmic sounds of the rain, and laughter. It was so tranquil and... well, perfect! I will never forget our retreat on Bassett Island. My husband's favorite part of the property was having access to all the boats. He took the kids out on their first boat rides, kayaks and inner tube. The squeals of delight and looks on my children's faces are priceless. Lastly, it was a pleasure working with Rod and Murphy who own the property and Peter who is the Property Manager (and built the house!!!) Working with them was easy and they were extremely responsive to all my questions. It was like working with friends. If we didn't live clear across the country, we would come out every year and rent this gem of a property. It is clear to me that they put a lot of love and care into designing this house and outdoor area. It deserves only the best renters who will love and care for it too."

  • Clean, comfortable & convenient

"Wonderful rental house in Pocasset. Very clean, convenient to the local beaches, including a short walk to a small beach at the end of the street. This small peach/sandbar was perfect for my 11 month old granddaughter. Beds were firm & comfortable, and living spaces were sufficient for our group of 7. The front porch was pleasant with a water view and table to take meals. The owner stopped by on Saturday to greet us and to make sure everything was in order for our stay. One caution we learned: the top step down from the 2nd floor disappears into shadows during certain times of the day. Be careful you don't miss it and stumble down the stairwell."

  • Susan from DE

"The mornings & evenings on the lake are more beautiful than photos. It's a great place if you just want to relax and do nothing, or for those who want to venture out to explore new places within a short drive, there are places to go. We recently spent a week there, had family coming in from Hawaii to attend a wedding in NYC. It was convenient, flying into Boston airport (just hour & few min away), others driving from NH, DE & MD. It was a last minute plan, however worked out really well for all. We were fortunate the dates we needed were available. The canoe and pedal boat on the lake was great for all ages. Bikes, life jackets, beach chairs, sand buckets and toys, etc. were there as well. A hidden treasure, was the beautiful little beach on the lake, only steps away through little path to left of property. The Jacuzzi on the deck was a welcome relaxation at the end of a busy day and gas grill for cooking outdoors. There are 2 fireplaces in the home, which imagine would be cozy during the late fall and winter months. If you are planning to do a lot of biking, recommend you have vehicle with bike rack. The immediate roads near house do not have shoulders on road for biking or walking, not the safest. However, there is a wonderful walking, and bike trail at the Cape Canal (6.5 miles on one side and 7 miles on other), which is only 10 minute drive from the house as need to transport the bikes. You will see locals transporting their bikes as well. Local fish market has great lobster & seafood, if prefer cooking at home. Martha's Vineyard is only short drive to a ferry and worth the trip if have not been. If your plan is to attend events and sightseeing, would recommend check online "events calendars" in the area. Boston is a great city to visit as well, lots of history and good seafood - Quincy market has plenty lobster and chowder. I have not stayed in a hotel for a vacation since 2008. Discovered the only way to vacation is staying in a vacation rental, especially if more than 2 people traveling. It's much more like being at home, yet enjoying all the amenities without the outrageous hotel prices, fees & taxes. This home on "Picture Lake" is a great getaway for families with children or just adults. The owner, Ellen was very helpful and accommodating. Our family is grateful we had the opportunity to create some wonderful memories we will cherish forever ! Thank you Ellen for sharing your "Home Away From Home" with us."
