  • Great place

"This was our second stay at Bernie's. It is well maintained, and completely equipped. Location is great: quiet, near beach, fish market and supermarket. Sunsets over the bay are beautiful, just a short distance away. I hope we can stay there again."

  • Monomoscoy Island retreat, Mashpee, Massachusetts

"Heavenly if you like birds, fresh air, nature, trees and woods. The sun rises above the river over this peaceful property. The quietness and solitude are palpable and restful. Set back from the riverfront is a large beautiful yard, many tall pine trees and a big well crafted wooden house. In wintertime, it was an oasis of tranquility. The house is so inviting and has everything you could need for weeks or months at a time. The library shelves are full of fascinating books on all kinds of subjects: art, biographies, business, cape cod, children's books, foreign languages, history, nature, philosophy, reference books, sciences. There is a closet full of family games and puzzles. We watched and listened to a never ending parade of winter land and sea birds flying or floating by: bluejays, cardinals, chickadees, crows, finches, hawks, osprey, sparrows, woodpeckers, and bufflehead ducks, Canadian geese, cormorants, mallard ducks, seagulls and swans. Monomoscoy Island is a protected wildlife preserve, and well off the beaten tourists pathways. The house was clean, dry, nondrafty, beautifully furnished, so comfortable and well kept throughout. The big kitchen is full of dishes, glasses, mugs, pans, pots and utensils. The beds were super comforting and always a good nights sleep. There is an abundance of fresh linens. Large homes are nearby, but the yard and surrounding area is private, tree-filled and woodsy. In winter it gets dark early (you can really see the constellations!) but there is good lighting inside and outside where needed. Pathways to the house are clearly marked and lighted. Well maintained wood chip strewn driveway, with plenty of parking off the short side road. Mashpee is a lovely town of Wampanoag Indian origins. Many native descendants still live in the older parts of town, and sponsor a huge powwow of costumed dancing, drumming, and a musical celebration of their Indian culture during the summertime. We loved being here in the winter, with the cold outside it never felt anything but cozy, protected and warm inside the house. The resident hosts, who live on one side of this spacious two-story duplex, were so kind, helpful, thoughtful and never endingly patient, and made sure if there were anything we needed that they were only a phone call or text away, or a knock on their door (entrance way and foyer is shared). They will probably offer you some home cooking, and it was great! Truly a serene, special, spiritual place. And it snowed too!"

  • Amazing Week!

"What an amazing vacation! The house is perfectly situated on Bucks Pond at the end of a dead end street. The private beach is so relaxing. We enjoyed swimming, snorkeling--even pulling the beach chairs down to the private beach to read with our feet in the warm water. We kayaked daily, whether it be just around the pond, or to one of the association beaches for more swimming. Our daughters now believe that a pond/lake is better than the ocean! The wildlife was wonderful as well. My 11-year-old future ornithologist was thrilled to see a cormorant, an osprey, Canada geese, catbirds, and many other songbirds during the course of the week. We did day trips on the Cape Cod Rail Trial, to Coast Guard Beach, and to Wellfleet and Orleans. The deck was wonderful for our nightly grilling and relaxing--and NO MOSQUITOS! The house was so sunny and bright, had a large table, large living room, huge master bedroom and a well-appointed kitchen. We definitely plan to return!"

  • A Great Cottage!

"This is our second year staying at this cottage but our sixth summer going to Cape Cod. We upgraded for more space but got a lot more than that. The cottage is very comfortable and nicely decorated. It has all of the modern necessities. Everything you need in the kitchen, washer and dryer, cable tv and wifi. It has a beautiful deck in the back and a nice flat and comfortable area in the yard to play and relax. The hammock is great and the outdoor shower is amazing. The owners are great to work with. Very responsive and sent back my deposit right away. It's on a nice side street that has little traffic and is in a nice quaint area of chatham. It is very close to the beaches, and 10 minutes from downtown. This cottage is everything that is mentioned on this website. You won't be disappointed! We love it!"
