  • Beautiful Rose Cottage

"My family- 5 adults and three children had a wonderful vacation at Rose Cottage. It is beautifully decorated and has all of the amenities anyone would want for their vacation. A beautiful retreat in the woods and only a few miles from Old Silver Beach- one of the most beautiful beaches on the Cape. We would recommend this lovely home to all who are looking for a "home away from home". We definitely will vacation here again."

  • Wonderful for a family trip

"Abigail's Falmouth home was absolutely perfect for our family of four (kids aged 9 and 7). We came to Falmouth for a wedding and stayed for the following week, a total of 9 nights. During the wedding weekend the house was a comfortable place for extended family to come spend time with us while we were all in town and the kitchen has everything you need to cook family meals. The weather was lovely and there was so much to enjoy that we never even turned on a TV. At the house we enjoyed the quiet shady yard and herb garden, the games, puzzles, great book collection, swing set in the yard and the bikes. My 9 yr old son is an avid biker and was thrilled to find the blue bike and helmet in the shed, thanks for sharing that! From the house we biked on the Shining Sea path several times, visited Plimouth Plantation and the Mayflower, the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, the Sandwich Glass Museum, Old Silver Beach, Highfield Hall and Falmouth's pretty Main Street. We had great food at the British Beer Company, Coonamessett Farms, Seafood Sam's and Ben & Bill's Chocolate Emporium and we loved 18 Cousins Bookstore in Falmouth. The house helped us feel happy and relaxed and my kids made great memories there, we will stay here again if we get future trips to Cape Cod."

  • Couldn't Ask for More-Great Place to Stay

"We honestly couldn't have asked for more- this place was great! It is tastefully furnished and decorated. The decor is up to date with hardwood floors, granite, and stainless steel appliances. Also, it was very well- equipped with everything you would need- plenty of linens, Keurig plus coffee maker, bottled water, plenty of cooking utensils and pots and pans, and the list goes on- We loved the location- right by Herring Cove. It was quiet and there was a pretty view of the water from the top floor. Due the cold weather we didn't walk into the main part of town-although it could be easily walked- about 10 minutes through nice residential streets. Best parts- very clean, great location, gas fireplace, the cupola and top deck for sunsets, all channels on TV, knowing we could call if had any questions, dual/rain faucet shower, beautiful windows, WIFI, friendliness/helpfulness of owners, JoLynn's help, champagne in fridge, fresh poinsettia for the holidays, coastal/contemporary/comfortable decor"

  • Friend Reunion with Families in Tow

"We had a wonderful week at her lovely home. There were 9 adults (college/ high school friends with significant others) and 5 kids (under 6) and the home was welcoming and spacious with room for everyone, not to mention the bonus of having the large barn where the kids could run around on a rainy day. The children loved spending the afternoons playing in the beautiful backyard while we could relax and watch them from the comfort of the back porch. It was nice being set back from the road away from traffic and at the same time, a short walk to a nice kid-friendly beach and a short drive from Woods Hole. Also, the caretaker was friendly and very helpful in answering any questions that came up during our visit. The adults got to catch up at night at the large dining room table with drinks and board games. We had a wonderful week and look forward to returning."

Cape Cod Travel Tips

When locals talk about Cape Cod, it often sounds like a Dr. Seuss book: Lower cape, upper cape, outer cape, inner cape. While it’s true that each part of the cape has its own unique characteristics, the most important thing to know as a visitor is that Cape Cod offers the freshest seafood and the most perfect, natural escape from the hustle and bustle.

Top Attractions

The biggest draw in Cape Cod is the relaxed lifestyle buttressed by a deep connection with nature.

The Cape Cod National Seashore makes up about 40 miles of seashore on the outer cape - all the way from Provincetown on the upper cape to Chatham on the lower. It includes 68 square miles of woods, lakes, ponds and beaches. Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet on the Atlantic side is simply beautiful. Come here to relax and grab a drink and some fresh clams at the Beachcomber bar. Marconi Beach, also in Wellfleet, features more crowds but stunning sunsets. Head to the beach at Chatham on the lower cape to tour the quaint Chatham Lighthouse. There are also plenty of bayside beaches in Truro and Provincetown.

As it is situated in a unique coastal and bay ecosystem, Cape Cod has several important wildlife sanctuaries that are great for an educational visit. Schedule in a visit to Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, the Wellfleet Audubon Sanctuary or Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge in Chatham to learn about the local ecosystem and protection efforts.

What To Do

If you’re on the upper cape, check out the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum for a dose of interesting history. On the inner cape catch a film at the old-timey Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre and grab some ice cream to go with at the nearby Wellfleet Dairy Bar and Grill. Wine-lovers won’t want to miss a visit to the fabulous 5-acre Truro Vineyards where you can sample Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to go where presidents in the past have been, pay a visit to the John F. Kennedy Memorial in Hyannis and then head to Falmouth to take a ride on The Island Queen Ferry to Martha’s Vineyard - a favorite island of presidents through the ages.

Dining and Shopping

It goes without saying that they know how to do seafood right on the cape. If you’re on the upper cape, eat at the The Lobster Pot, a landmark seafood shack in Provincetown, which serves up no-nonsense deliciousness. You’ll have great views of MacMillan Wharf and can delight in the classics like steamed littlenecks, lobster rolls and clam chowder. A more upscale P-town eatery with a stunning view is Fanizzi’s By the Sea, which serves up classics with an Italian twist.

If you’re on the lower or mid cape, delicious meals can be had at Blackfish in Truro, the Chatham Pier Fish Market (where you can also do some seal watching), Arnold’s Lobster and Clam Bar in Eastham and the delightfully named The Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet.

The hands-down best place for shopping on the Cape is Commercial Street in Provincetown. You can find everything here from upscale boutiques, shops selling artisanal crafts and more funky options like Marine Specialties, Inc. a kooky surplus store, or The Shell Shop, which sells tens of thousands of unique shells.

Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen and appetite in preparation for the perfect Cape Cod vacation.
