  • Cozy Cottage with Easy Accessability to Town & the Madaket Rd Bike Path

"Cozy cottage, simple, adequate Pottery-Barnish decor. Lovely, spacious downstairs newly remodeled bathroom. Upstairs bath a surprise --- tiny wall hung sink, old fashioned tub/shower with wrap-around curtain. Two upstairs bedrooms very small -- no closet in one, no dresser or chest in the other. Small but adequate window ac units. Nice cross breeze in downstairs with windows, front and back doors open. Owner very responsive and communicative. Excellent information provided to begin our stay. However, arrived and WiFi not working. As this was a working vacation, we spent anxious hours trying to connect with the island caretaker to remedy the problem. Finally, the next day, we did reach him and he advised us to unplug the modem, wait and replug. Presto, all was fine and worked well during the entire week. My husband and I were in one bedroom, my mother in the other and my adult daughter on the sofa downstairs. Not the best arrangement for privacy or sleeping in. Would highly recommend this cottage for a couple or parents and young children, but older children might not like the sleeping accommodations downstairs. Definitely would not recommend for two couples at all! Great location. Easy 1/2 mile walk into and out of town. My 85 year old mother did the walk with ease, often twice a day. We rented bikes for the week from the Nantucket Bike Shop which delivers and picks up for no extra fee if you spend more than $150. The house had bikes and helmets but not in the best condition. Rented bikes (with helmet & lock) were excellent. Kitchen more than adequate but no lobster pot. Restaurants where we ate, all excellent: Straight Wharf; Corazon del Mar; Oran Mor; Proprietors Bar & Table; Ventuno; Languedoc and the Nantucket Lobster Trap for ordering pre-cooked Lobster dinners. Would definitely return to this cozy cottage, even with my mother, but would not want anyone sleeping downstairs in the living room again. We were charmed by its sweet front porch, a blooming garden and a super location for easy access into town. Did not need or miss a car. The shuttle bus service in town was more than adequate to travel further afield. Awesome vacation, one of the best we've ever taken!"

Nantucket Town Travel Tips

Need Nantucket Rentals for Your Next Trip?

Located just about 30 miles off the coast of Cape Cod is Nantucket Island. The quiet harbors, sandy beaches, old mansions and gardens, dramatic cliffs, and the interesting history give Nantucket rentals an extra edge over other Cape Cod accommodations. Though the island itself is small, people come in droves to Nantucket beach homes year after year. It is best seen during the summer, but Nantucket lodging is available throughout the year.

Getting into Nantucket Rentals

Because it is an island, the only way to access your Nantucket lodging from the mainland is either by air or sea. The name of the town literally means “faraway island” and that is the way locals and tourists alike prefer it. During the summer, there are plenty of ferries and small airlines that you can choose from. In the winter, while there are still such services, their timetables are reduced. Once you get to Nantucket beach homes, you may not want to return anyway!

Seeing the Island from Nantucket Beach Homes

The island is so small that you do not always need a car to get from Nantucket rentals during the summer. A great way to see the island is by using the various two-way paved bike paths which are along each major road on the island. If you do not already have a bicycle at your Nantucket lodging, do not worry! There are plenty of bike rental shops in town that can help your whole family. With a bicycle, you will have no trouble spending the day at the lovely beaches all over the island as well.

History’s Influence on Nantucket Lodging

You cannot book Nantucket beach homes without getting a glimpse into the island’s past as the whaling capital of the world. In fact, many Nantucket rentals are homes which were built back in the 1800s. Some of the red brick homes were owned by the wealthiest of whalers back during that time. Some historic sites to see while staying at Nantucket lodging include the Brant Point Light, Sankaty Head, the Oldest House, and the Old Windmill to name a few.
