  • Visually sumptuous, with a warm welcome

"I had a chance to stay at this wonderful studio for 2 weeks in October 2014 and couldn't my believe good luck. This property, a former Unitarian Church and sexton's residence, has been transformed by Richard Emanuel (a fine artist with a professional background in design) from the spare utilitarian architecture typical of a New England protestant church, into a visual delight offering a richly textured decor that is a very charming. I found all amenities to be more than adequate and Mr. Emmanuel has a wonderfully open and engaging personality that is warm and genuine. The location is in the middle of East Gloucester and anyone familiar with the work of Edward Hopper would feel right at home as visually Gloucester today is not all that different from that of a hundred years ago and many of the houses and scenes look as if Hopper had painted them yesterday. A very cozy and comfortable hideaway and I will most definitely be returning."

  • The beach and the ocean are the yard!

"This was our second year staying here. The location is wonderful and the beach is clean and sandy. There is a large, comfortable deck with a well-kept grill and the entire deck overlooks the beach and the ocean. The units are very clean and comfortable and the owner goes to exceptional lengths to ensure guests comfort. The layout of the house is great, with a large, well-equiped, clean (the appliances are new/newer) kitchen, with a sliding glass door opening to the deck. The bedrooms are very comfortable and clean and there's a full bath with a tub and shower. This section of the beach is not congested and very family friendly. Although there are two units, one upstairs (where we stayed), and one downstairs, we never felt like we were sharing a house. There is a rare feeling of privacy which is hard to come by. At night, there are fireworks on the beach and you can see the firework disiplays in Hampton Beach which is only a five minute drive. Oh, yes, although we don't fish, many days folks were pulling in very large fish just by fishing from the shore. We have been looking for the perfect vacation spot for years and we have found it. We are planning on staying two weeks next year."

  • Loved our stay

"The house was in great condition and was nestled in a very quaint residential area in Marblehead. We had everything we needed as the house is quite stocked (towels, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, laundry, pots, pans etc.) As other reviewers have said, the walk down to the house is a little icy in the winter, but nothing unmanageable. There were multiples parking spots which was great as we had three cars to park. We also LOVED the wood stove. Overall would recommend staying here with family or a low key group as it is in a very dense residential community. We would definitely stay here again!"

  • Beach lovers dream spot!

"I surprised my wife and kids with this summer vacation. She grew up vacationing at Salisbury Beach as a child. Everything she had told me about the beach was spot on. The kids spent the entire day playing on the beach and riding the waves. We took long walks along the shore during the early evening and played football at low tide. We cooked all our dinners on the grill and then walked to the center for skee-ball, ice-cream and fireworks. This was truly one of the best and relaxing vacations we have had. I give it an A+ rating!"
