  • Visually sumptuous, with a warm welcome

"I had a chance to stay at this wonderful studio for 2 weeks in October 2014 and couldn't my believe good luck. This property, a former Unitarian Church and sexton's residence, has been transformed by Richard Emanuel (a fine artist with a professional background in design) from the spare utilitarian architecture typical of a New England protestant church, into a visual delight offering a richly textured decor that is a very charming. I found all amenities to be more than adequate and Mr. Emmanuel has a wonderfully open and engaging personality that is warm and genuine. The location is in the middle of East Gloucester and anyone familiar with the work of Edward Hopper would feel right at home as visually Gloucester today is not all that different from that of a hundred years ago and many of the houses and scenes look as if Hopper had painted them yesterday. A very cozy and comfortable hideaway and I will most definitely be returning."

  • Lovely little home away from home.

"The photos do it absolute justice. We loved our week long stay in this little piece of heaven. The attention to detail involved in the cottage is impressive. The front porch area is a great place to spend the early morning watching the fish in the little pond. The plum cove beach area is about a 5 minute walk down the street. The little parking garage is a bit tricky to get in to, and be sure there is purple trash bags on your stay. The city wont pick up trash unless you use the city sanctioned bags. We had to go buy our own but the local convenience store has them. The shower was amazing and the whole house integrated sound system was a nice feature also. The wifi was a bit spotty it seemed to come and go. On our visit we checked out the lighthouse area around the breakers, went on the 7 sea's whale watch, ate plenty of clams, cooked our own lobsters (there is a big boiling pot included), drove around the entire cape, checked out Salem, visited Cape Pond Ice, saw the Hammond Castle and went to the Ryan & Wood distillery. There is so much to see and do in the area, that a week is not enough time to see all the sites. I would highly recommend a stay at this little cottage its perfect for a couple visiting the area."

  • What a view....

"We stayed for a long weekend. Rebecca and Dot are great hosts, that offer assistance as you need it or let you to your own thing if you do not. There is a private entrance for renters, which works out well. Plenty of property and a quiet area of Gloucester way high upon a hill that overlooks the marina. Super easy and quick to get into the main drag in town and the property and owners are very dog friendly, which was a big plus for us. We would definitely stay again and will soon."
