  • Visually sumptuous, with a warm welcome

"I had a chance to stay at this wonderful studio for 2 weeks in October 2014 and couldn't my believe good luck. This property, a former Unitarian Church and sexton's residence, has been transformed by Richard Emanuel (a fine artist with a professional background in design) from the spare utilitarian architecture typical of a New England protestant church, into a visual delight offering a richly textured decor that is a very charming. I found all amenities to be more than adequate and Mr. Emmanuel has a wonderfully open and engaging personality that is warm and genuine. The location is in the middle of East Gloucester and anyone familiar with the work of Edward Hopper would feel right at home as visually Gloucester today is not all that different from that of a hundred years ago and many of the houses and scenes look as if Hopper had painted them yesterday. A very cozy and comfortable hideaway and I will most definitely be returning."

  • Family gathering

"We came up from Texas for my niece's wedding. There were 9 of us staying here. PLENTY of room and kitchen is very well stocked of any cookware you may need. We had a shrimp and lobster boil one night,(plenty of lobster pots) and sat on the deck to relax. Weather was wonderful, had to sleep with a light blanket a couple of nights. The house may seem outdated, but if you are interested in the New England experience and want a comfy place to stay, THIS IS IT!!!! ( If I ever have the pleasure to come up this way again I will definitely stay here.) Photos of the house are great, lets you know the quaintness. The Deck off the back has amazing views of the river and are GREAT for morning coffee and evening cocktails. Gloucester is a quaint little town and Rockport is just up the way, Boston is great place to spend the day and head back here for the evening of relaxation. The owner is VERY nice and personable. HIGHLY recommend this jewel of peaceful bliss to ALL!!!!"

  • A Wonderful September Week

""Rocky Neck Hideaway" is aptly named. We were thrilled to find this moderately priced, clean, well-equipped rental. Although small, it's nicely laid out, and the two levels make it feel larger. We enjoyed fun walks around Rocky Neck, with its art galleries, restaurants, and interesting houses; a walk of less than a mile to Niles Beach; a walk of less than 2 miles to Good Harbor Beach; and a kayaking trip. The Last Stop Variety, also in walking distance, was great for forgotten items AND delicious muffins. It was easy to drive to downtown Gloucester and elsewhere on Cape Ann. The owner, Elizabeth, is friendly and helpful. We'll definitely consider a return trip!"
