  • Antique converted barn, can't beat the view or the location!

"Stayed here just a week ago, at the end of the season. The inside is very unique, in all the right ways. Looking up to the ceiling, there is nothing but native timber, very distinctive. The upstairs is a U-shaped loft area via a partial spiral stairway. Looking out the front of the house from the loft, it is wall to wall windows and two large patio doors. The view is just as amazing from the inside of the house as outside. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the deck runs the full length of the house in front, and wraps around to a large deck area on the side with table seating for six or more. Plenty of space on the front deck and a two person glider as well. The side deck is adjacent to nice bricked patio and garden area. There is also a patio door access from the kitchen to the side of the deck. There are stairs off the deck that lead down to the rocky shore below, when the tide is changing the sounds are amazing including lots of seagulls (which you will also hear on the roof as well). At low tide there is a small sandy beach below and to the right, and a large public beach is a very short walk down the street. The house sits farther out that your neighbors on either side, so you have privacy and a view. To the right you can see the old harbor, to the left the beach, and all to the front the wrapping coastline of the bay. The house faces the northeast which while I was there the decks has both sun and shade times. There are a row of houses/shops right behind which is the main street. Equidistant in the other direction from the beach is Bearskin neck full of eateries, shoppes, galleries, etc. If you want to avoid driving, the train station is only a couple blocks away and runs to Gloucester, Salem and Boston, the trains run from early in the morning til late at night. Great food everywhere I went, but plan ahead, even at the end of the season places fill up fast. Some places seat 20 or fewer people which adds to the charm but would be tough for large parties and at peak season. Kitchen is well stocked with both large and small appliances and a charcoal grill on the side deck, linens and towels ready to go. Washer and dryer in upstairs bathroom are a great touch. Plenty of parking space and plenty of Rockport is within walking distance from the house. Small convenience store in Rockport, but a full size supermarket and shopping is just up the road in Gloucester in minutes. Great place to stay in and go out!"

  • Adorable Home - Convenient location

"Adorable home with great sized kitchen; washer & dryer are a bonus to renters; living room could use a comfortable chair as an alternative to the sectional couch for seating; bedrooms are accommodating, however a bed in one upstairs bedroom had a broken box spring frame. The backyard picture is outdated - unfortunately the lovely flower garden in the center of the back yard no longer exists - it is now a large unkept overgrown circle of some sort of thorny bush - difficult for small children to play around. As noted in another review - the stairs are extremely steep for young children to navigate and upstairs bedrooms have no doors for privacy or sound control from downstairs. Otherwise this house is a great location, easy walk to Rockport village shops, restaurants and lovely Front Beach - quiet & peaceful to watch sailboat classes and paddle boarders ."

"Thank you Liz for sharing your home. The pictures do it no justice. Liz thought of everything and by opening a cabinet or draw you saw that. Very easy person to deal with. Thank you again Liz. We will return to Lanes Cove."
