  • Beautiful Home, Great Location

"We recently had a family vacation here and I must say, the owner thought of everything. We had a full house, but because of the open concept of the home we never felt cramped or like we were bumping into each other. The location was perfect for trips to Boston, Cape Cod, and the Seacoast area. There are also two restaurants, a variety store, bait shop and liquor store within walking distance. Also, downtown Newburyport is a short ride by car or taxi and was a favorite spot for the out-of-towners for shopping, eating and whale watching. You can be as busy as you'd like, or just enjoy the beautiful spot on the ocean. The home is great for entertaining a crowd, with everything from double ovens to multiple fridges. Also, the elevator is wonderful for anyone elderly/handicapped. Highly recommend."

  • Hands Down - - The best view on Plum Island

"I had an extended stay at Gray Gull - - long enough to enjoy a change of seasons. There is NO better location on the island - - None. Direct waterfront with stunning water views to the south, the west and the north. The welcoming deck looks west and across the harbor to the city and steeples of Newburyport. Every sunset is different and often stunning. The house is cosy and flooded with sunshine. The owners have furnished the house well and tastefully. It is a " feel good house". The location affords privacy but is close to everything including all the many sights and activities of Newburyport. It is clear that the owners take great pride in there property and make every effort to accommodate their guests. I highly recommend Gray Gull with qualification."

  • A fabulous week !

"Hi Brent and Cathy, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay ! I loved the way the cottage was decorated and all the ammenities. You both have truly thought out everything a person/family would need when away from home. The cottage was spotless and comfortable. It was an easy drive down Route 1 to Boston ( a little bit more scenic and grocery stores along the way, about 1 hour). Newburyport with it's great shops and walkway along the harbor was quaint (went there 3 times) We went to Bob Lobster at least 4 times, the best fish sandwich I have had in years! Also picked up some moisturizer at the Plum Island Soap Company. The area is very quiet and a nice getaway from our normally hectic lives. Everyone was very hospitable and your 1st floor tenant was very helpful ! Pass along a "Hi" from us. Thanks again, Sheila, Joe and Jay !"

Plum Island Travel Tips

Discover a New World in Plum Island Vacation Rentals

Located off the northeast coast of Massachusetts, Plum Island is the perfect vacation destination for anyone interested in walking the same land and seeing the same sights as our country's earliest explorers and settlers. Captain John Smith noted it on his map of New England, and it was officially named in 1649. And as any visitor to the island will see, the land was aptly named. Margaret Smith wrote in her journal in about 1678: "Leaving on our right hand Plum Island (so-called on account of the rare Plums which doe grow upon it), we struck into the open Sea . . ." Those plums still grow on the island, which means Plum Island vacation rentals sit among hundreds of plum bushes that just might be ripe for harvesting, depending on the time of year you visit. They're said to make fantastic jellies and jams.

Everyone Wants a Piece of Plum Island

The 11-mile island north of Cape Ann is divided among the towns of Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, and Ipswich. Most of the southern part of Plum Island is devoted to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary for more than 300 species of resident and migratory birds as well as a wide array of mammals, insects, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. The refuge offers a variety of educational and recreational activities, such as surf fishing, wildlife photography, nature tours, and hunting opportunities.

Plum Island Accommodations Are Diverse and Plentiful

While the southern part of Plum Island is home to an endless array of wildlife, the northern chunk of the island is largely residential. Plum Island beach homes come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny cottages to large oceanfront abodes. If you're looking for North Boston lodging, Plum Island is a place you're sure to find your dream getaway.
