  • Recommended for seriously unwinding!

"My husband and I stayed here for a week in August, and couldn't have enjoyed it more. It was clean, decorated in a playful way, and quiet. We slept in every day later than usual because the cottage is on a cul de sac, and there's no traffic, the quiet was lovely. Bicycles are provided, but we brought our own and found that was a great way to get around. There's a great restaurant within walking/biking distance, the Plum Island Grille, we went to Bob's Lobsters for fresh oysters, and to Mad Martha's for breakfast. It's possible to bike into Newburyport for lunch or shopping as well. The roof deck is a great place to watch the sky at dusk and see the stars come out. The owners are wonderful "virtual" hosts, and provide plenty of information and options for your stay. We particularly loved biking to Sandy Point beach for the day. A charming cottage in every way, and was definitely, for us, a romantic getaway."

  • Lovely, comfortable home with everything you could need!

"We rented this cozy home on Plum Island for a 3-day girls weekend. Dick was a pleasure to work with and his home is the cleanest and most well-stocked vacation home I have ever rented (and I have rented many)! It is so close to the beautiful beach and Newburyport is a great little place to explore. We had an incredibly relaxing weekend and truly enjoyed our stay at Oceansong. Thank you, Dick for a wonderful escape!"

  • My Favorite Vacation Place

"This is my fourth year staying at Paula & John's inviting vacation home, and I've already booked for next year. The house has everything one could need for a week away from home - comfortable beds and living room, well equipped kitchen, back porch with grill and eating area and, my favorite, the roof top deck with views of the ocean. There are endless places to kayak in the area, and the beach is less than a 5 minute walk away. My entire family - ranging in age from 2 to 62 - loves this place!"

  • Just what we needed!

"We just spent a rest filled weekend at this lovely home. Two busy Mom's took time out to refill our cups. We walked on the beach, napped in the most comfy beds with lovely linens and found fabulous places to dine with out having to leave Plum Island. When we did leave the Island there were endless things to do in Newburyport. Many shops to poke through and more great restaurants. This home is very clean and has everything you could need for a beach vacation."

Plum Island Travel Tips

Discover a New World in Plum Island Vacation Rentals

Located off the northeast coast of Massachusetts, Plum Island is the perfect vacation destination for anyone interested in walking the same land and seeing the same sights as our country's earliest explorers and settlers. Captain John Smith noted it on his map of New England, and it was officially named in 1649. And as any visitor to the island will see, the land was aptly named. Margaret Smith wrote in her journal in about 1678: "Leaving on our right hand Plum Island (so-called on account of the rare Plums which doe grow upon it), we struck into the open Sea . . ." Those plums still grow on the island, which means Plum Island vacation rentals sit among hundreds of plum bushes that just might be ripe for harvesting, depending on the time of year you visit. They're said to make fantastic jellies and jams.

Everyone Wants a Piece of Plum Island

The 11-mile island north of Cape Ann is divided among the towns of Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, and Ipswich. Most of the southern part of Plum Island is devoted to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary for more than 300 species of resident and migratory birds as well as a wide array of mammals, insects, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. The refuge offers a variety of educational and recreational activities, such as surf fishing, wildlife photography, nature tours, and hunting opportunities.

Plum Island Accommodations Are Diverse and Plentiful

While the southern part of Plum Island is home to an endless array of wildlife, the northern chunk of the island is largely residential. Plum Island beach homes come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny cottages to large oceanfront abodes. If you're looking for North Boston lodging, Plum Island is a place you're sure to find your dream getaway.
