  • Fantastic rare historic home

"My sister visited from Europe and our two families stayed at this truly incredible home for a June vacation. All of us were in awe when we arrived and started exploring. The 1684 house seemed compact from the outside, but as we went through the hallways and stairs and discovered room after room after room, we found that we had to go through the house again to take it all in. The house has been meticulously maintained and restored, with antiques and period furnishings throughout. Each room is an absolute pleasure to take in, not only for the incredible 17th century woodwork, but also for the furnishings, which all have beautiful natural textures, warm neutral hues, and deep rich antique bronzes. We made our way out the back door and were in awe anew when we saw the yard and garden. The house sits atop a small river valley, and you are surrounded by lush greenery and the sound of the rushing water below. The yard is terraced, and the top terrace has a covered patio. The brick patio has dining seating as well as Adirondack chairs. Down some stone stairs is the next level, with wood chairs and a firepit. Down the next set of stairs is a gated fence (nice safety feature). Behind that gate was a surprise circular deck (like a large "O") which allowed you to walk along in the dappled light under the trees to the old well and stream (now a lily pond) and down to the mill stream with the Plymouth Grist Mill on the opposite bank. The beautiful towering foliage, colorful flowers, birdsong, and rushing water make the backyard a wonderfully tranquil and restful sanctuary. This is not just a place to stay. It's a place to experience. You get to enjoy a 17th century home with hidden modern luxuries. The Sub zero refrigerators, television, and wifi router are hidden behind cabinets. The beautiful quilt on the bed has a fluffy down comforter underneath. The kitchen is better equipped than any home we've rented through VRBO throughout the years. Other highlights: - Proximity to everything we cared about: lovely beaches, historical sites (there is a gorgeous tree-lined path along the river that you can take from the grist mill to Plymouth Rock), an 18 minute drive to Cape Cod, and an hour drive to Boston. - Variety of bedrooms and bed sizes - Sitting areas on both the 1st floor and 2nd floor - A layout that thrilled the kids - "I found a hidden staircase!" - A thoroughly clean house, gleaming tile showers - A wonderful property contact We absolutely loved it!"

  • OMG, what a wonderful place

"The location is great. The beach on the property is rocky, but there is a sand bar a few feet from shore. Water shoes are a good idea. We went to the town beach and it was also wonderful. Gloria the owner is a wonderful friendly woman that will bend over backwards to make your vacation a delight. The outdoor shower comes I handy for beach returns when you are covered on sand and salt. The ocean breezes keep it cool, but there are a few AC units in windows in case you need them. The only drawback is no cable TV. Only local stations. She does have lots of DVDs and even VHS and board games. Sometimes it's nice to get away from watching TV. Wireless is available too kelp in touch with FB and twitter."

  • Beautiful Place

"It was a beautiful house. We all had a great time there. Fully worth for the price. Kitchen was filled with all the things needed for cooking, baking & BBQ. There was a nice pond behind the house filled with fish. My friends stopped counting how many fish they caught after a little while. :) There was a canoe & a kayak, so that you can spend lot of time in the pond itself. There are many beautiful beaches around that you can enjoy."

  • Wonderful Vacation Rental!

"This cozy cottage is exactly as described and was very clean upon arrival. The communication with the owner was easy and clear and all questions were answered thoroughly. My family and I enjoyed the small town charm of Marion. My husband and I were married 4 years ago in Marion (at Wickenden Chapel at nearby Tabor Academy) so maybe I'm biased! But I would definitely rent the cottage again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. (Thanks, Gael!)"
