  • Great Get-Away!

"This comfortable cottage is very well maintained, clean, and in a nice, small neighborhood of other well maintained cottages (people obviously take pride in their properties!); a great place for a home away from home. The kitchen, dining, and living areas both upstairs and down provided beautiful views of Lake Huron and easy access to a grassy lawn, sandy beach, and the lake. There was plenty of room inside the cottage to accommodate different interests after daylight hours; whether playing board games, reading, surfing the net, or watching a movie there was space for all. Abundant outdoor furniture provided plenty of space for our family of six to eat, enjoy the outdoors, and the beautiful sunsets. Lake Huron has some rocky shore areas so water shoes are helpful to have. The water level was low as well when we visited but we found the additional rock and plant life a fascinating place to walk and see wildlife including clams, frogs, schools of small fish darting about, and Great Blue Herons who frequently stopped and stood near the shore. The Village of Port Austin is nearby and offers perfectly adequate conveniences for a small town. We enjoyed the park, mini-golf, the Lighthouse and the Bank restaurants, and shopped at the Port Austin Market (a small grocery store), hardware store, souvenir shop, and Mermaid’s Cove - a favorite place for works by local artists. Any questions or inquiries we had before or during our trip were responded to promptly, efficiently, and in a very friendly manner. (Thanks!) We found the description and photos of this property to be accurate and reflective of the rental property and amenities. Our only regret for the trip was that the weather was too windy to allow for safe kayaking to Turnip Rock - we’ll have to plan a return trip! Good kite-flying location though!"

  • Relaxing and Enjoyable

"Clean, quiet, and away from traffic, but within walking distance of beaches, playgrounds, kayak rentals, fishing charters, restaurants, shops, and post office, etc. Port Austin is far from the casinos, shopping malls, and glitter of the metro area, but if you want to relax, unwind, and recharge; this is the place for you. It's great for kids, great for young parents, and great for seniors. The photographs accurately represent the property, the property is clean and well maintained, and the owner is extremely helpful. The Fireside Inn, a few miles west of Port Austin on M25, is worth the short trip - don't be deceived by its outside appearance, it's great."

  • Great family vacation home

"A wonderful old house with an absolutely magnificent view of lake Huron. Very comfortable, well provisioned, good wifi but cell service is pretty weak (not the fault of the house). Unlimited golf, helpful owners, I would recommend. Try the Lighthouse Grill in Port Austin, a real dump but really good food especially the fried perch."

"Jim what a wonderful time, place and memories we have had staying at this beautiful home . Everything was up to-date, the home was spotless the beach was great and the kids loved exploring the little islands. Thanks again for opening your home for all of us to enjoy. We will definitely be back again:) P.S. We also would recommend The Farm House Restaurant, the food was supreme a little expensive but was worth the price."
