The park, on the west side of the lake, has a great beach, volleyball courts, playgrounds, picnic areas and launch areas for boats and jet skis. Located just six miles to the northeast of Detroit and within easy reach of Ontario, Canada, is Lake St. Clair. This 26-mile lake connects to both Lake Huron and Lake Erie. Its shallow waters, fed by the St. Clair River, provide anglers with species such as bass, catfish, perch, salmon, sturgeon and trout. Here, the enthusiastic fisherman can enjoy year-round sport with ice fishing becoming increasingly popular here.

On the Saginaw River sits Bay City, where there are a variety of fascinating things to do. Of particular interest is the city’s connection to the Underground Railroad used by runaway slaves. The city was founded by one of America’s renowned abolitionists, James G Birney. Here, visitors will enjoy Chillson House, a house reported to have hidden slaves, and two Civil War cemeteries at Elm Lawn and Pine Ridge, both final resting place of several well-known Civil War veterans. At the Veteran’s Memorial Park, visitors will see the sunken schooner Gerrit Smith. This 70-foot ship is rumored to have transported runaway slaves to Canada.
