  • Amazing stay for Family Reunion

"My family who lives out in the Western US came to Michigan for a family reunion. Many had not been to this area before the reunion, but I told them all that anything outdoors we would want to do, we could do in Michigan, and so they came. In the end we had 21 people from four siblings families and my parents. We needed a place that could hold all of us. After looking into several properties, I discovered Walled Lake Lodge. The owners have been wonderful to work with over the past year to plan this. They were very accommodating with our arrival and use of their property. I personally viewed a number of potential places, and it was clear after visiting, that this was the right place for our reunion. Here is why. 1. It is spacious. There are so many gathering areas-the main great room, the screened porch, the loft area, the second family room/game room, and then of course the outdoor property. We were able to all be together but in different pockets doing different things. But when we wanted to all play a game, or eat or talk, we could do so. That was a big plus to us. 2. It is isolated. It takes a bit to get there and to get out, but we found everything we would want to do, we could do there--hiking, biking, floating on the river, swimming in the lake, fishing, boating. We could do it all there. And, there were no neighbors to hear or to annoy but the animals (the coyotes were pretty active and loud one night, and the eagle stared at us from his tree throughout the week). We could sing around our campfire without bothering anyone and without being bothered. 3. The grounds and lake are awesome. The water was warm enough to float or swim in, and the lake was small enough and calm enough to paddle all over but large enough to use and enjoy. We rented a jet ski for the week, and it was perfect to have to use at the lake. The grounds are flat to and from the property which made it easy for small children and older folks with knee issues. We set up badminton/volleyball and ladder golf and played around in the yard. We loved sitting on the dock, fishing from the dock, and chatting on the dock. The water is so clear and beautiful. 4. The property is set up to really allow you to relax and have fun. The owners have really gone out of their way to make the place nice and accommodating with extras that are wonderful-kitchen appliances, space, things to use and enjoy, and there is a clear sense that they love their place and want you to love it. And we did!"

  • RESTFUL RETREAT

"The Presque Isle cottage is the perfect place to rest and relax; my husband and I and our two children (20 & 24) did just that! We were initially concerned that the cottage itself did not have WiFi and the cell phone service was spotty, but being less connected to work was a blessing. We spent our days with a good book, taking leisurely boat rides and bicycle rides -with lots of trails to explore. We were only 25 minutes to Alpena but we only made the trip twice. We found a fun antique store right next to the yummy Cabin Creek Coffee place on Second Ave and we found the best fresh meat counter at Perch’s IGA. We purchased their homemade jalapeno and cheddar brats and their stuffed mushroom and Swiss burgers…sooo delicious! The cabin’s covered wrap-around deck was an added bonus for grilling and dining and could be used rain or shine. The cottage is clean and comfortable with great views. The cottage fit the four of us well, the kids each had their own room and my husband and I enjoyed the loft bedroom with the lovely new master bath. The clubhouse is a beautiful facility, although we were content to just hang back at the cottage. We did however, put our boat in at Grand Lake one afternoon. Like Lake Esau, it is clear and picturesque, but “Grand” in size. We had a wonderful week at the Presque Isle cottage. Thank you John for being so helpful in meeting all of our needs and for sharing your restful retreat!"

  • Presque Isle Vacation

"We had an amazing time at the North Bay Getaway. Cannot say enough about how clean and comfortable the home is. My sister and brother-in-law and my husband and I spend a week together in September (usually in the U.P.) We have always used VRBO to find a place to rent and North Bay has to be one of the best. The owner is one of the nicest people we have met on our travels. So accommodating and welcoming and full of good information about the area. We intend to return in 2015 (something we have never done before - we always move on to another area of Michigan. We just felt that there was so much more to see and do, so we will be returning."

  • Great cottage on the shore!

"My wife, adult son and I spent a week at the cottage near the fall foliage peak. The cottage met and exceeded our expectations. The welcoming gift package was well enjoyed and we enjoyed the MOOSE theme. On our first day there we committed to counting ALL the moose but we never completed the mission and I suspect we could not have arrived at an accurate count! The week we were there was unfortunately very rainy yet we remained very busy visiting sites in the area and we truly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The cottage is very well appointed and very well equipped. We prepare most of our meals and I cannot think of any kitchen item which was not supplied. The yard and beach are awesome and the cottage is so convenient to town, just a couple minutes away. It is so much better than staying in a cramped motel room. Everything was so clean and nicely appointed, I cannot think of a single criticism. Thank you so much Dick and Sue for the great accommodations. We also playing with the nostalgic games and engaging books! We would not hesitate to return again in the future. With the Headlands International Dark Sky Park, Wilderness State park, McGulpin Point lighthouse and Fort Michilmackinac all within a few minutes there is so much to do without even spending a minute in town or on the island. Great place to visit and much thanks for your reasonable rate during our stay."
