  • Big Deck and Sand Box

"You know how you rent these places and pull up hoping it is nice, well you will be happy! The small things are easily overlooked by an outstanding view and the large Deck! The house is located on a quiet street, not directly on US23. The water was very cold for our trip, but this is an off year with the winter and summer we are having in Michigan. Inside the house there are plenty of tools in the spacious kitchen (Crockpot!, but no dishwasher). There is an upstairs full bath and a full bath in the basement by the washer and dryer. The beds are not the most comfortable, but are good enough; I would bring a blanket and pillows. The upstairs bathroom could use a fresh coat of paint on the cieling, but it is not gross. Most windows have nice screens to keep them open, and the master has a ceiling fan. The car port is a nice place for sitting when it rains, and so is the sun porch. The sun porch was also used by us to store our bikes and swim stuff while we headed out; check out Tony's Tacos in Tawas, Nates Bill of Fare in Oscoda and the beach on the point down Huron Road. We ended up eating in the sun porch because we could easily close the door to allow our child to sleep, and not lose out on fun time by having to be quite. The master has a queen and single, the next room has a queen and single, and a 'kids" room has a bunk bed set and single. Plenty of closet space and drawer space. There is a gas grill and charcoal grill; we used the gas grill, and it was prefect and large enough to fit six ears of corn and four large pieces of fish. There is a set of trees on the south side of the property for a hamock, and it is above the deck. This deck is huge! Very cool, but don't expect a beach below. Below the deck is a "dock" to walk out and dive in. A nice sturdy ladder is waiting to climb back out, but be careful, the steps are slimy and slippery; water shoes make the exit much safer and secure. The water was up to my chest most times, and you could walk across the front of the condos on the nice sandy lake bottom; I am 6'2". On the deck is a ten by ten sand box for laying out or building sand castles. It was a very nice feature, and we brought a blow-up mini pool for our daughter; luckly, because the water was too cold for her. We set the pool in the sand box, and we did not have to worry about her getting in the lake. There is a nice two person swing to have morning coffe on and relax. They need to update the pictures, theirs do not do the place justice."

  • Great Comfortable Family Cottage!!!

"The Flynn Family Cottage is an ideal place for a large family stay on Higgins Lake (or a smaller family). Actually, in our 30+ years going to Higgins, it is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. On this trip there were eight of us; my wife and me, two sons with their wives and two grandchildren. Everyone had a lot of room to move around in without bumping into one another. The cottage layout is great. The very large kitchen is separated from the living room. The living room is spacious with comfortable seating for everyone. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The highlights of this location include a long private entry road through the woods that gave it a north woods feel. The beach and fire pit are great. The lake at this point had a smooth sandy bottom and the grandkids (3 & 5) could walk out beyond the end of the dock and it would only be up to their chest. At night on the dock, the stars were magnificent and you could see the Milky Way. We had a great time and highly recommend the Flynn Family Cottage. We’re going back in 2016!!"

  • Comfortable Cottage

"The home was very well kept and very comfortable. A variety of nature is there right in the backyard. We even had an eagle come by to feast on a fish by the shore! The only negative was that there was no beach. I believe that this was partly due to the higher lake levels this year. Overall a very enjoyable experience which my wife and I would recommend to all!"

  • RESTFUL RETREAT

"The Presque Isle cottage is the perfect place to rest and relax; my husband and I and our two children (20 & 24) did just that! We were initially concerned that the cottage itself did not have WiFi and the cell phone service was spotty, but being less connected to work was a blessing. We spent our days with a good book, taking leisurely boat rides and bicycle rides -with lots of trails to explore. We were only 25 minutes to Alpena but we only made the trip twice. We found a fun antique store right next to the yummy Cabin Creek Coffee place on Second Ave and we found the best fresh meat counter at Perch’s IGA. We purchased their homemade jalapeno and cheddar brats and their stuffed mushroom and Swiss burgers…sooo delicious! The cabin’s covered wrap-around deck was an added bonus for grilling and dining and could be used rain or shine. The cottage is clean and comfortable with great views. The cottage fit the four of us well, the kids each had their own room and my husband and I enjoyed the loft bedroom with the lovely new master bath. The clubhouse is a beautiful facility, although we were content to just hang back at the cottage. We did however, put our boat in at Grand Lake one afternoon. Like Lake Esau, it is clear and picturesque, but “Grand” in size. We had a wonderful week at the Presque Isle cottage. Thank you John for being so helpful in meeting all of our needs and for sharing your restful retreat!"
