  • Awesome vacation

"Excellent stay. Very clean, and quiet. Had a great time. Owners Rose and Pat are super nice people who are there to answer any questions or help you in any way. Close to shopping, parks, medical facilities ect. I highly recommend staying there. I will be back this fall and again in the spring. Cost was comparable to other rentals and was worth every penny."

  • Privacy plus

"We stayed at the "Tuthill House" for a month, so our "likes and dislikes" may not be typical. From the time of our first inquiry about the property, until the time of our departure (and even after), the owner was always available and quickly addressed our needs. Calling this place a cottage is not is much, much more! Ample room for 2 couples! The house was clean and neat upon our arrival, and there was ample bedding. The amount of glassware, silverware/utensils, dinnerware and pots & pans was amazing, and the gas grill better than we have at home. Privacy abounds; the setting is in the nicest residential neighborhood on the lake, and yet, shopping and restaurants are relatively nearby. The hard-sand lake bottom extends about 400 yards out into the lake (about 4' deep), and is great for playing in the water. For us, being away from home for 6+ weeks, the included WiFi was a godsend. The resident mallard ducks are always looking for a hand-out and will even eat out your hand if you're patient enough. What didn't we like? The beds were unsatisfactory.....too soft and sagged toward the middle. The dark log interior begs for brighter lighting. The sprinkler system wets downs the front porch (and everything on it) every morning. And, although the dock is nice, it's shared with the next-door property, and with the house being on the East side of the lake, it is usually too rough for small boats, but GREAT for water toys. Not much for "dislikes".....we had a great time and would probably rent again & could certainly recommend it."

  • June Vacation

"We have been to The View for our vacation for several years now. We love the cottage and its location on the lake. There is ample space for us and any family members that can join us. The cottage is always clean & ready for us when we arrive and our hosts are always cordial. We hope to enjoy these visits for years to come. Thanks"

  • Great Family Vacation and Memories!

"As parents of two young boys (6 & 2) my wife and I searched high and low for an affordable family destination where we could have fun, build family memories, and not stress out with every meal and nap time. Lucky for us, we live in Michigan, and found this great place to stay! The two bedroom cottage was clean, well stocked with kitchen utensils, and steps from shallow water that my boys loved to swim, fish, and boat in. The sloped cement sea wall was easy enough to step down, and there is a beach at the hotel right next door for easier lake entry. The dock was perfect for sitting on, fishing, and when we rented a pontoon boat nearby, we were able to pull right up to dock whenever we needed. The included gas BBQ was practically new, and saved me from the long wait of charcoal when I was ready to cook. (Unfortunately it was completely out of propane when I got there, but there are multiple places that exchange tanks in the area.) The bedrooms both have decent beds, with one room sharing a corner with a small hot water heater and electrical box. (We opted to take that room to keep the kids from touching them.) A ceiling fan in each room and an oscillating fan helped us stay cool in the 90 degree heat. There were some towels, blankets, pillows, etc... but we brought our own to avoid having to visit the local laundry mat before leaving. The futon couch and recliner were a great way to relax or take a nap, and the included Cable TV with DVD/VHS was a nice distraction when the kids needed some down time. The town in Houghton Lake was a little more spread out than most tourist towns, but we found some great restaurants, local shops, mini-golf, boat rentals, and even a Wal-Mart and Glens to stock up on groceries. If we decided to return to Houghton Lake as our family vacation next year, we'd definitely stay here again! The owner was extremely easy to deal with and was lightening fast with email responses and the return of my security deposit."
