  • A Cottage, NOT!

"My idea of a cottage is an old, musky and well-worn place, where you have to listen to a squeaky old screen door that doesn't quite close. Where mosquitos follow you indoors and outdoors. This is anything but a cottage. It is a private get-away. A retreat. A place where you can watch the sunrise, skip stones and have a private campfire. We used this as our base, which is only 20 minutes from the "Mighty Mac." While there we visited the Soo Locks, Tahquamenon Falls, Sleepy Bear Dunes, Mackinaw City, and Mackinac Island. The only reason we would not recommend this place is because we want to go next year and don't want the competition."

  • Excellent Home Away from Home

"There isn't much to add that hasn't been said. Fabulous home -- like being at home as far as the comfort goes -- great beds. The kitchen was wonderful to prepare some of our meals and we enjoyed the outdoor space. Perfect place to take in some serious golf. Jim and Carol have a jewel of a home here and we are fortunate to have them share it with us. Jim was great to work with and offered recommendations, all good. We're already talking about our return!"

  • Super Relaxing..Or Not!

"This was my second time in 2014 at the River House after coming up to ski in February. Although we had some rainy weather, hiking Mason Tract, Marl Lake and the nursery trails at Higgins provided both exercise and fun! The kitchen is very well equipped, and the ambiance of the Au Sable right outside the door make staying at the house for meals very appealing. We spent an evening around the fire pit, and enjoyed the starry skies another night from the hot tub. There are quite a variety of both active and relaxing options here next to Roscommon, and I feel like this property was a rare find!"

  • Perfect Mid-Semester Break!

"My friends and I had a wonderful time at Bear's Den! The location was perfect; there was no road noise and the fall colors were stunning. The lake was calm and serene, and since it is surrounded by trees we even stayed warm out in the boats. The cottage itself was exactly what we were looking for. We loved the wood-burning stove and made ample use of all of the couches, which are comfortable beyond measure and perfect for curling up on in the middle of the day. And the hot tub!! Perfect way to spend a chilly evening outside. The Sleeping Bear Dunes were well within our driving range as well, and we got to explore the surrounding area quite a bit. On top of the wonderful accommodations, the speed and friendliness with which the owners responded to our questions made for the best rental experience I have had by far. Not only would I return to Bear's Den, I would also rent any of their other properties because of this exceptional service. My friends and I were looking for a place to take a breath in the middle of a hectic college semester, and we found it at Bear's Den. We would have loved to stay longer and are definitely looking at when we can come back!"
