  • Cozy and inviting!!

"Loved my stay at the cottage. The space was filled with old charm with mismatch furninshings and decor. Each room leaves you guessing at what the next may look like. From the modern stand up shower to the antique tub, you will be amazed! End each evening at the firepit enjoying wine from your tour and chocolate covered cheeries. What a great way to relax~!"

  • Bearberry House in Glen Arbor

"Our family (ages 2 to sixties) spent a week at Bearberry House. It is inviting, spacious, well equipped, and in an ideal location, just perfect for the twelve of us. The owner called us the day we arrived to be sure that we had everything we needed and was happy to answer any questions about the area. Bearberry's proximity to Glen Arbor allowed us to walk to shops, restaurants, ice cream, a playground, putt-putt, and Lake Michigan, so we weren't constantly in the car. We had options to swim at a number of beaches in Lake Michigan, and the nearby Sleeping Bears National Seashore was a real gem with dunes to climb, hiking trails, the beautiful Pierce Stocking Drive, and historic Glen Haven. We ate in often but also tried several restaurants, all of which were enjoyable. Best of all are the priceless memories our family now shares!"

  • Really nice family compound

"My whole extended family went up to Michigan earlier this summer for the first family trip in years. This was a very big deal. There are some members of the family with very "specific" demands and needs (read;high maintenance). As the leader of this fine group, I was tasked with finding accommodations that would be suitable for all of us. Our group included 2 families with kids ages 5-13, 2 grandparents, another young family with a 3 month old and a hipster bachelor! No easy task! However, this property fit the bill perfectly. Thomas and Pat were super easy to work with, answering all of my ridiculous questions. They were just finishing the opening of the property when we got there, so we ended up with a super tour. The original older house was perfect for the grands and the younger family. The kitchen was very nicely outfitted with everything we needed. One of my biggest pet peeves when renting is never having enough serving bowls.....this place had more than enough! The main bedroom/bathroom was swanky enough for those who like swanky. We ended up eating breakfast and dinner in that house every day. The other house is more of a typical rental-type house; open kitchen that is not quite as nice as the other, but certainly sufficient, 2 bedrooms on the smaller side but with excellent bedding and pillows, and a loft full of beds for the kids to sort out. The rec room provided a nice respite for anyone who may not want be in the thick of it with several bed options, as well. The location was also terrific. It is very close to town, nice bike ride or pretty determined walk (we drove, but it took about 5 minutes). The beach is fabulous, no algae or water plants at all, no rocks, nice and shallow for plenty of kid fun! We used the kayaks a lot, rented several SUP's, of course had a boat and tube, used the fire pit, etc. There are also beautiful planters that are self watering all around the houses and decking, a very nice touch that puts this place a notch above the rest. As an added bonus, the owners even leave directions out of the area-which saved us from massive confusion trying to reverse our inbound directions. My only complaint was the mosquitos and the temperature being a bit bracing. Bring your parkas and bug spray and stay here."

  • Home is fantastic, but lake has swimmers itch

"This Glen Lake home is fantastic. There is plenty of space with nicely kept lawns and a tennis court in the rear. Perfectly located close to Glen Arbor, yet spacious enough for the kids to camp in the yard if they wish. It looks west on to the Sleeping Bear Dune climb with sunsets just behind that. Glen Lake and the surrounding area was named Most Beautiful Place in America by ABC's Good Morning America, which is not hyperbole. All fantastic. However..... Glen Lake has swimmers itch. For a family that loves to swim and sail and water ski, this was brutal. You can buy some protective lotion, but it is tough to tell a kid to lotion up every time they want to step in the water. If you want to relax and enjoy northwestern Michigan, this place is the promised land. If you want to enjoy the lake, you may want to find a place on Lake Michigan (no swimmers itch)."
