"I really enjoyed staying here... it truly is a great little hideaway in the woods! I like that it's in a neighborhood and not far from a main thoroughfare but still feels secluded, private, quiet and really peaceful. It was a perfect balance for me, as I don't think I would feel completely comfortable or safe being too far away from other people and civilization. It's a nice walk to a pretty beach and the Warren Dunes park in general is just beautiful. I liked the fruit stand on the corner -- didn't try the pizza at the little restaurant there, but it smelled great. If you want to venture out, there are quite a few things to do close by that are easy to get to and the owners kindly left out a few brochures and information to make it easy to plan, but if you don't feel like it, you can easily amuse yourself right on the property... one day, I went from a breakfast of local goodies on the window seat near the kitchen table, to reading a book while lounging on the screened porch, to enjoying a glass of wine on the swing in the back yard while my dog explored and sniffed around, then ended the day with dinner on the couch watching tv. I technically went nowhere and did nothing that day and IT.WAS.AWESOME.
The only downside, and it's a real stretch to even call it that, was that my dog was a little freaked out by the stairs to the loft -- he wouldn't go up more than a couple of stairs without quickly retreating. The risers are a little narrow but I took the helpful advice of other guests and descended backwards like it was a ladder and I was fine. The owners have taken all the safety precautions possible and you'll get used to it quickly. (& I'd bet kids would think it's fun!) I also think smaller dogs would have no problem with them but my guy's 60 lbs and a little awkward, so that was likely the issue.
Another quick note -- I'd recommend driving into the Warren Dunes if you're planning to do a day at the dog beach because it's on the far end of the beach from where you'd enter if you're walking from the property. I just found it easier to pay the fee (less than $10) to get closer to that location, rather than walk and lug all my stuff there plus wear my pup out before we even hit the sand. Because it's vacation and why work harder than you have to? :)
& Thanks to Eileen and Rich for checking on us, being so welcoming and opening your cute cottage to guests, even those with 4 legs! I'll be back!"

"My wife and I went here for our 25th anniversary, and it was everything we hoped for. An incredible private view of the lake, with all the amenities, and then some. The master bed was the most comfortable mattress I ever slept on. While most of our experience involved walks on the beautiful private beach and relaxation in the cottage, we also enjoyed attending a local nature park, farmer's market, antique shops, and good restaurants. I would absolutely consider coming here again, and definitely recommend it to any couple. I don't think it would be a great place for younger kids, only because of the limited things to do."

"Group of old college buddy's rented the housefor a weekend of grilling, sitting around the campfire catching up, and hitting the Four Winds Casino. The house was outstanding, clean and very modern. Took advantage of the heated porches and gas fireplace (it was only 35-45 degrees in late March) The house is not as secluded as it appears in the pictures, but it was you expect in the New Buffalo area. Will definitely rent again if in New Buffalo."

"This was a very nice place to stay when you have a family with older children staying too. We had the kids downstairs and parents upstairs. We had such a wonderful vacation, very laid-back atmosphere. The owners allow you to use the dock and provide a paddle boat and canoes if you are interested. They also allowed us to take our dogs with on vacation. They are very knowledgable with the history of Magician Lake as their family has been in the area for 150 years!"
