Family vacation to celebrate birthdays, an engagement, and an anniversary.
"Our family, including children and grandchildren, stayed at Shugar Shack. We had a 2 yr. old and an 8 yr. old. Todd, the owner, emailed and called me after I inquired about his cabin. The cabin was very much like it was shown on the website, as well as the information Todd gave me over the phone. It was clean and well maintained, as well as stocked with plenty of all that we needed. Having a dishwasher, washer and dryer were nice. The only kitchen item that we wished we had was a griddle for pancakes :) The weather turned cooler mid-week and several of the family enjoyed the hot tub. Both porches were very inviting for morning coffee or to get away from the TV to read a book. However, the theater system and pool table in the basement were great for the younger ones. Walking to Goshorn Lake was so convenient - for our kayaks, fishing, or laying in the sun. We did the Dune Ride, easy walk, the Star of Saugatuck boat ride, and because it was cooler part of the week, we went to the shops downtown. Downtown was busy! We ate at the Coral Gables on the patio, and also at Phil's. Be sure to visit Oval Beach, a short ride to Lake Michigan. We did some hiking/running at Dunes State Park - very nice! We had hoped to get back there again, but ran out of days! With two runners in our group, it was very nice having a paved trail nearby. We wished we had brought our bikes!
The only thing we realized by staying in a log cabin, was that you can hear kids from all rooms :) Over-all we had a great stay and have some photos that will be memories for years to come."

"We arrived on a Friday afternoon (side note...Stay far away from Chicago traffic on a Friday afternoon) to a well maintained although not clearly marked house on a beautiful lot...Gorgeous piece of property! House is well maintained, very clean and a great central location for quick trips to Saugatuck,South Haven ,St Joseph, Grand Rapids etc.
However we feel there could be some additonal common amenities in the house...some of the guest towels had holes in them, there was not something as simple as salt and pepper in the house (which disappointed me after we bought farm fresh eggs to enjoy for breakfast), the microwave could be upagrade, it would have been niceer if there were matching plates, cups etc, the back door off the bedroom was at times difficult to lock...
Don't take this too much to heart, beleive me we didnt suffer while we were there, we just think things could be a bit updated and improved on...Southwestern Michigan is truly a beautiful place to visit"

"The Oakland North is the perfect place for a great getaway! The house has so much history and charm, not to mention that it is stocked with more than just the basics, including toys and games that kept us entertained for hours. Both the front and back of the home have beautiful views, and the back deck is the perfect place to gather at the end of a fun filled day. The beach and the marina are just short (minute or two) walks from the house (both literally right down the road). The owners are amazing as well and provided great and quick feedback and tips as we got ready for our trip. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation home and/or location. In fact, just a few days after we got back from our trip, we booked the same house for our vacation next summer!"

"The loft was much, much larger than I expected. The pictures certainly didn't even hint at the amount of space we would have. It was wonderful! Well appointed and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Centrally located for a quick weekend away and easily accesible to many local attractions. We never drove more than 20 minutes away for some fun! The little community beach was a nice little treat to kick off our weekend Friday night, watching the sunset! Surely a memory none of us will forget. The only mutually agreed upon negative remark would be the train tracks running close by the property. All of us are from a fairly suburban, rural area, and the noise of the train was quite alarming to us. However, we all agreed that folks from a more urban area, may not even have noticed.
In short: Beautiful home. Very clean. Easy process. Great location. I would stay again, and definitely recommend to friends.
Thank you Michael and Mary!"
